How many M900's are on here.

I think i've opened a can of worms here, Doe's anyone know the first vin number on the first Monster? Did they run in sequence, is there any links to this sort of query, Does the club hold any records?

According to the Falloon bible frame numbers for the 900 began at ZDM 900 M 000001.

Did anyone see the programe on tv a while ago where they went to the Ducati factory and got talking to some guy who works there, he had a store room around the back it had green wooden garage style gates on it when they went in it was an aladins cave of rare and exocit parts they were hanging everywhere but in amongst the bike's he had covered where the first 916 and the first M900 produced in 92!! he just took them off the floor and round to "his" store..sorry i don't remember what the programe was called

Davy, as far as I can make out from the two Falloon books the M900 went on until 1999 in carb form and until 2002 in injection form. All M900s worldwide numbered over 36,000...

We have now spent the last 10 minutes hunting out our documents and working out there were 16890 monsters made between Spikes and mine.....

I have two books by Ian Falloon. "The Standard catalogue of Ducati Motorcycles 1947-2005" and "Ducati Belt-Drive Two-Valve Twins Restoration and Modification" The second one deffo has the info I gave you , I would have to check if the "Standard Catalogue" does at home. I think it does. I bought the Retoratuionh one off amazon for about £15 and they are now quoting £125!!!!!! THey have the standard catalogue for about £10.

Thanks cutter, i'm going to try and get my hands on both books, On another note does any of the members here have a mint example of a 93 M 900?or anyone restored one back to mint condition using all original parts?

I only posted this for a bit of craic. But now we're on the subject i always liked the Ducati style and then when the "Original" Monster came out, That was it for me i had to get one. but since then i think Ducati have lost it a wee bit...... i'm saying no more!!!

Not to be too controversial but here here...IMHO i wouldn't buy a modern Monster as they have become far too stylistic for my taste:eek:

When they first came out with the original 900 and the subsequent 750 and 600 that followed I thought it was the perfect example (or quintessential for you clever types;) ) of a street bike. Macho and mean looking in black (ok ok despite being in red and yellow!) and one that stood head and shoulders above anything else on the market.

Unfortunately they stuck a 916 engine in one and IMO from then on missed the point. The styling then became too radical for my liking and I'm afraid to say that when I shop for a new bike soon, it wont be a monster...sorry:shocked:

keep up the interesting posts.

you should try one, you might like it

i always thought i'd never have one with a radiator, but one came up at the right time and price, and i love it!

I have to say that the power plant in the s4 series is even more macho and mental than any m900 and can double the grin factor if you can handle it and its not always liked looks. The motor looks stupidly mental hanging there with all it danglies on show. It called a MONSTER a strange looking beast that will scare you. Its meant to be ugly

Whilst I do agree with your points about the m900 it always happens when you find a big lump to shoehorn in the stock vehicle like a v8 cut down to v6 in a Metro. Awesome mental thing to do.

I also agree the M1100s is too pretty but only we can bring back some meaness by customising it. But the engine is brilliant. You must try one just to find out.

I was talking to one of the other members on here recently a local lad , and we both agreed on this very subject, it seems to me like Ducati are trying to keep up with the other naked bike types, which is a bit odd as they were the first to do it with the monster.

To be honest they have to. Lets be honest the bike hardly changed for 15 years other than engine size and frame and cosmetic tweaks. But they have to appeal to new buyers just like car drivers.
I absolutely hate the new KA as Caroline has the original one. Not the best example but lets be honest how many new KA's do you see. Its a waste and you may as well buy a Fiesta.

Back to the point Ducati have to survive and sell bikes. Whilst everyone is happy with the looks of their monsters not many will be sold so you have to reinvent it. They did and it appeals to some and not others. The 1100S appeals to me and I downsized and its suits my needs with long legs and power for two up.
It may well turn out a failure but somehow I doubt it. Its not a 999 which is not that horrible but the public didnt like it.

There will always be a classic and the monster is and always will be so look after them and keep em running.
