• PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WHEN ATTENDING A MONSTER MEET/RIDEOUT

    1. All riders ride at their OWN risk.
    2. The UKMOC will not be held liable for any accidents to riders/passengers/motorcycles whatsoever.
    3. You are deemed to be in control of your own motor cycle at all times
    4. Please let the ride leader know, if you are intending to 'peel off' en-route.

    ADVICE FOR THOSE LEADING RIDEOUTS

    1. Make yourself known to all persons who intend to rideout with you.
    2. We recommend the 'Drop-Off' system for group rides.
    3. Find out if everyone has ridden in a group before - if not explain any relevant info.
    4. Ensure all have enough fuel - and locate nearest garages to the meet point.
    5. Ask everybody to ride slightly 'off-set' - eg - do not directly follow the bike in front WHERE POSSIBLE. (this leaves extra braking room).
    6. HAVE FUN!

It seems to have been a bit quiet on the heritage aviation scene for a while, but the lads don't sit idle for very long.

There is to be an event celebrating the Vickers Wellington along with talks and presentations about the Wellington, it's missions and history.
Our own Richard will be giving one of the presentations and it's worth a look just for that.
These "do's" are always interesting and enlightening, the gang are very good at these events.

I'm just bumping this back into ya face!!

I hope to get some response to this as they are very interesting and entertaining events which the organisers put a lot of effort into.
I'm looking forward to this one as I don't really know much about Wellingtons, nor their missions and history and we can be sure to find out plenty.

They also have a virtual reality Lancaster mission that you can go on and bomb Berlin! While holding no cigar to the real thing, which we can only guess at, it is fairly realistic and worth a go.

You'll find them a very friendly crowd and they like motorbikes too. Please see if you can make the time to come along.

ey up Gary , any takers for this yet ? surely dave and roger ? do they sell chips at the cafe ? they have a cafe don't they :oops:

I think DaveR might be interested, Dacs might be persuaded if I show him the egg slice, but he's usually busy on a Saturday.
I didn't see Roger last Sunday so can't comment, I am sure we'll get some company.

I don't think there is a cafe, but some of the ladies may have made some cakes? There's always copious complimentary coffee and tea.
All I can find is a Subway just round the corner, Is that a kind of food outlet?
I think The Ocean Fish Bar is on site, but a few hundred yards from the Museum. Looks good and they sell pizza as well. Not sure how long the break is for lunch.
I'll be taking a sarnie I think.

A sarnie ? that's proper Yorkshire mate :ROFLMAO: health permitting i will be there even if it has to be in the car, hopefully not

Sorry gents but the old grey matter has let me down again, I am pencilled in to go to the National motorcycle museum open day
on Saturday  . Note to self check the bloody diary .. Doh

Good luck with that if it's raining Walter.
Utopia and I tried to go to that at the Nationalist Motorcycle Museum and meet up with Grumpy, Moco and the North West crew for a Weekender planning meet.
They had closed their grass overflow car parks as they were unusable, the tail back went out down the motorway and all the way round the roundabout. Chaos didn't really describe it adequately!
We never did get in and met in a café in Solihull, which was an education!

Martyn and I rode over to RAF Marham together this morning, suitably attired for the wet. With Martyn on his R80RT of mid seventies vintage and me on the Zero, as it will comfortably run my heated underwear.
We forded the bikes a couple of times and I found a biggish branch embedded in my bodywork when we arrived. It must have been semi-submerged in one of the floods.. All good fun.
We met John from the NOC on his immaculate Mk2 850 Commando, and later Tim and Lena from the NOC. I also ran into Bob whom I had only met last Tuesday at the Moto Guzzi Owners Club meet. 4 bikes on such a nasty day is not bad.

Richard, a UKMOC member, Known as Dicky in RAF circles, made the first presentation about the Wellington's attack on the German Navy in the Heligoland Bite It was mere days into the war and there was heavy loss of life and Wellington attrition. Bomber Command radically revised their tactics after that.
I was surprised that most of the presentations emphasised the Human aspect of the Wellington's story, Rather than technical details of the Wellington itself, even though it was a very advanced aeroplane for it's time, and indeed continued to get better throughout the War and after.

The team put a tremendous amount of work into researching the stories of real people who fought. The icing on the cake for me (and there was cake!) was the interview that Ady had recorded earlier in the week at the home of a 100 year old Wellington tail gunner from Norwich.
It was originally supposed to be a live video link today but Ady had the foresight to visit and record an interview as a backstop in case of technical difficulties, which as it happens did arise!
This is of course now preserved for posterity and a priceless piece of genuine history told in a very ordinary matter of fact way. Absolutely the reason I go to these events.

If you went to the UKMOC BBMF VIP tour at RAF Coningsby you would have met Ady who flew the Lancaster and Dakota as well as Tornadoes.
