Well another milestone passed, the Heap is now weighing in as sub 161kgs (ready to go but no fuel). But finding bits to save weight on is becoming a bit of an issue. The last couple of savings being the airbox lid (note the nifty use of rubber bands + original clip pivot, pins now CF) and the cover for ignition switch. With that cover gone the only remaining original unaltered component on the bike is the headlight bezel.IMG_20250614_125257.webpIMG_20250614_125635.webp

Well Rob I'm impressed, I had no idea anybody was mad enough to manufacture CF headlight bezels. £150 to save ? gms, is a bit rich even for me, but I might try making one.

100gms I'm on it.

I should explain, I keep a log of my weight saves between weighing the whole machine and there came a point where I had 101gms to go till cracking the 161kg barrier, and I was so irritated by the odd 1gm that I went out to the bike determined to cross off that 1gm, eventually re-profiling the horn bracket saving 1.5gms. OK so maybe I might qualify as slightly obsessed but you have to be at this point.

You have my sympathies.
Are you still using a glass headlamp lens unit?
There are polycarbonate units available. I can't recall the makes that are plastic, I think Wipac do one and others I'm sure.
A conventional headlamp bulb is lighter than an LED, I'm assuming that you're less interested in good lights than lighter?
You'll need one of my adapter rings to use a 7" headlamp unit, but they weigh about four fifths of f##k all. (way less than the equivalent area of glass that they replace.)
If you're really not concerned with a headlamp that's any good, there are plenty of horrid complete plastic headlamps from China, but I'm sure you have standards! Moulding a carbon shell is more you if I'm not mistaken..

why make one? if you have to make a mould make half a dozen, after all they sell for well over a hundred quid

Well this is all food for thought I had never considered an alternative to my 7" Cibie unit. Gary you're right about the light priority bit, mainly due to the brightness of modern headlights, the narrow beam/flashing effect in particular makes night riding a bit of a pain.
I do have a CF shell but painted black.
Going into production, sounds like a good idea, but I get bored really quickly so that's probably a no.

I went with a full carbon headlight unit from Carbonvani, rim and shell and brackets with an LED unit and one of Garys adapters on my S4 and it weighs a fraction of the standard one idk how much but very noticable.

Well have completed the headlight swop, weight saving about half what I had hoped, it came in at exactly 100gms.
So if anyone is looking for a perfect Cebie unit get in touch.

I would have thought it would be more than that too. Although you have to buy a lot of Ti bolts to save 100g, so hopefully a cheapish 100g?
Was the unit you got all plastic or just the lens?
Dacs is using one from "a Suzuki" which is definitely all plastic.

To tell the truth once I had weighed it, I couldn't see through the tears so don't know what the reflector portion is made of.
