Still looking for new UKMOC management.

I totally understand why the site will be switched off, and I don't blame anyone for doing so, it must take an immense amount of time to manage, like many others on here, I'm a technophobe, I bluff my way through my phone and PC every day, and although I don't contribute to the site that much, I'm more of a reader than a writer, I will really miss this place, it's got me through some really tough times in my life, it's been a very special place for me, a place without prejudice or judgement, which is very rare to find these days, I would like to thank everyone concerned with running it for so long, it will be sad to see it go, but as they say que sera, sera.

Well said 👏👏

Trust me, it doesn't take "an immense amount of time to manage".
All that's needed is the ability to respond when needed.
With the exception of running the website I did everything for some time, worked a full time job, raised a family and rode and maintained my Monster.
I'm not sure what people are afraid of here as it's all really very easy and not time consuming.
I'd like to think there is still a chance this wonderful institution can be saved.

Surely the most crucial need is for someone to run the website? Without that ongoing resource there is no point in me or anyone else offering to take on the admin side.

So guys/gals...

I'm the admin at ducatimonsterforum .org

I was apprised of your current plight by your member stopintime

I've set up a 'local forum' on the DMF... https://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=116.0

You're all welcome to join in free of charge.

If the admins here want to save the history of this club, ie the database and all the minutiae that is a vibrant forum, that can be arranged, as well. I will admit that that will not be at no cost. I have the ability to host your group on a server.

Right now we have options. Just throwing it out there.

I will add. If you want to register at the DMF, you can't use any service that masks your IP.

As a long time Ducatisti, I hate to see groups disappear.

what would the cost be Nate ?

Jerry,

I can't give a hard number without knowing if the software you use creates a database that's compatible with the free SMF software we use, or if the entire package could be migrated as is and continue using your software, look...everything, and if you pay for the software. There's nothing on your site that lists what software it is. There may be costs associated with that. Also, not sure who you're using for your SSL, and if any costs are associated over and above your hosting fees. With our host I wanted the best protection I could get , and the free SSL didn't provide that due to our unique situation.

As far as the server space goes until Sept '27 I'd do it for $300/year, this year prorated, which is less than 25% of our annual contract fee. We have a GoDaddy server, and when our contract is up in Sept '27 we'll be migrating to someone else...anyone else. I'm not doing this to make money, but I'm sure you know that participation isn't what it used to be, and it isn't fair to the few active members we have to spend over $1400/year to maintain the status quo. We run pretty much on member donations, other than what I kick in OOP for our SSL, and assistance with web stuff.

Let me know if you want to discuss further. Feel free to email me at the mail in my profile, or I'll be happy to discuss here. Nothing to hide.

Nate

the point everyone seems to be missing is;
if no one wants to step up and take responsibilty for leading the club/forum forward it's not sustainable, i've done my bit but i'm fucked if i'm continuing to moderate, arbitrate and make final decisions etc as well as doing all the tech stuff apparently no one understands for another twenty years.
step up or say goodbye ... simples

swim back round the goldfish bowl guys!
the issue isn't a technical one!!
i know lars and nate are just trying to help,
they're 'registered users' not members as not in the uk or ireland.
who organises and takes responsibility for the 'club' & approves membership, moderates the forum, raises funds and does the accounts?
if you just want to stay in touch, plenty of other forums out there, if you want the ukmoc step up or shut up.

Im happy to rejoin DMF ,, all this website stuff is really complex i never realised what a minefield it is
I noticed that a jerryz tried to log in today with an incorrect password. If that was your user name, I can help you recover your account.

Let me know.

just 'cos you don't understand it doesn't mean it's complicated, trying to make this a technical issue is deflection from the fact no-one wants to organise shizzle ...

answering previous questions:
it's a LAMP server
hiding software/versions etc. is just best practice

approximate current finances (allow ~5%/yr for inflation):

server hosting £160 /yr
domain name £15 /yr
email for domain £50 /yr (used for notifications etc.)
software support $120 /yr (£90 at current x-rate)
basic ssl cert £0

total £315 ($420) for 2026

... migrating to SMF £/$ ? but probably entirely doable the question is why bother since no one wants to take on management of the non-technical admin, the tech stuff is irrelevant, who's organising a monthly meet anywhere on these islands since the pandemic apart from Gazza? Hants/Wilts? Kent? Leicestershire? Manchester? ... anywhere?!

Lamp will likely work with Alma Linux...not positive. That's what our current server is running.

Brother...I hear you...but...what I don't like is the loss of the history. The monthly meets can be done by the interested parties. If there are no interested parties???

You, apparently, feel that won't happen. You might be right, but the preservation of the history is important, IMO. All the 'stuff' posted by your members over the time your 'club' has been in existence...it's important to preserve, and you're not getting the response you want from your member base.

I'd ask why the monthly meets are a prerequisite to preserving the history? If you feel that the minutiae involved is worthless, and the monthly meets are the reason to exist, that's fine. Not sure I agree, but it's your house, your gig, and your rules.

Let me know if the DMF can help.

I'm going to back out now. You people need to decide.

Wow... been a little while and popped on as I've recently got the old M900 back on the road to find the club in it's final throws? I've not actually ridden for a few years and now with a family and many other commitments I sadly couldn't help but still find it sad to read. I can't imagine how much I've missed, sounds like a lot! Sorry to hear folks, the board was a massive part of my life and influences much still today.
