Still looking for new UKMOC management.

Eloquently put Garry, I suppose that I compare UKMOC to the AJS & Matchless club which also has a well used Forum but has arguably always been a section led organisation….they too struggle to attract office bearers and have learned how to “ cut their cloth” through adversity and of course an annual subscription. The demographic of the membership is probably older and that is certainly reflected in their JAMPOT monthly publication.
Yesterday a non Monster pal sent me a link to a USA post showing a staggering 80,000 unsold new H-D motorcycles , suggesting that the whole organisation could be on the brink……baby boomers are seemingly turning away from motorcycles and doing a lot more pedalling 😩

I was an AJS and matchless owner member during the eighties and little into the 90's.
What a fabulous and well run club it was then and a brilliant model of how to run an international club.
I was Norfolk section secretary for a few years and also had a stint on the national committee as PRO.
Every time I go on their forum now I just pick up on obituaries of my former club mates!

I've been to far too many funerals of UKMOC stalwarts too, but we can't fight the inevitable!

On the up though. I think the fundraisers for this club may have a bit more importance than when the thread started?
I am beginning to nurture the idea of paying a professional to manage the forum, at least the nuts and bolts admin of it, not the moderation.
I don't know if this viable or even a thing at the moment, but it would relieve the burden on club members, as it does require very specific qualifications and skills.
I need to find out some costs and so forth. If anyone has any idea of a person or company that could provide the service we require, please let me know.
As mentioned it will inevitably put the running costs up, which makes the roles of fundraisers all the more important... Please consider what you can do in this department no matter how small you think it might be.

Some more advertising on the page header would do the trick for minimal effort, so please think about trying to contribute to that.

Okay. This thread is now a whole week old and has had 350 views.
Utopia has boldly stepped forward to make his contribution to club funds.
We have had ZERO other offers of help.
I think we can draw the conclusion from this that no-one wants to be involved, but are still happy to make endless banal posts here.

I now have to decide the fate of UKMOC. This is not what I signed up for at all and I absolutely hate being the one to do this.

I am setting a date for March 31st 2026 and then I will wash my hands of the Presidents role.
You will find that Rob (Slob) will most likely concede defeat as well and switch off the server.
This leaves DaveR with the issue of what to do with the club's funds... I think the Air Ambulance will do well out of it?

It's absolutely in your hands, dear member. I will no longer be pursuing this issue.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Well I have to sympathise with you Gary, I have really valued the UKMOC site, and have in maybe weird kinda ways tried to support it with posts and distributing cards, but I can't help but conclude that it's about to hit the buffers through natural causes. I would be prepared to step up in some way, but feel that the format is generally outdated, for all but boomers, and we are now in the dieing zone. Adios Bitza.

Stayed out of this conversation so far because I didn't want to be yet another explaining why I can't contribute to management/running because, unfortunately I can't really do much in that respect.

I value UKMOC and have met some great people on rideouts and got help & information when needed and would be saddened to see it disappear as is now looking likely. Personally this format of forum suits me, I'm not into social media stuff - does that make me a boomer?

If there is any way it can continue that would be great and to that end, I'd be more than happy to pay a subscription and/or make donations if that would save the day?

"Boomer" a person born as part of the post war baby boom.

I’m saddened that I can’t help, as I would have liked to. However due to my current health issues that needs to be my primary focus.

If I could suggest tho…and this might be a curve ball. Can it be ran solely with a treasurer and IT support? If so we could treat it as a non-admin/president/moderated forum kind of like a very low maintenance site…with The absolute bear minimum input needing done to keep it ticking over. That’ll allow people to keep using this amazing resource for the time being. And would allow people to step down from current roles!

And maybe in say 12 months or so we could revisit it and see who wants to try to kickstart it again…I will 100% come forward for any role that’s available as soon as I’m confident my health issues are sorted.

Food for thought.

Fair comment Gary, let the proverbial plug be pulled,I will keep your contact details obviously and hope to catch up again sometime.

Stay safe

Maybe I missed something, but didn`t you have one or two willing and able to run the club and to maintain the IT? Then came along a t-shirt initiative - which can work as fund raiser shoulder to shoulder with PayPal contributions.

Gazza; try to focus ahead a little longer than a few days. Please, if you have the energy, run with what you now have - do the last
few weeks in style with a positive attitude and push the decision forward to the deadline. In the meantime - happy face, please😁😁😁

I would be very sorry to see this Club/Forum die. It seems the most essential need is a new Webmaster (not my skill), so what is the deadline for that?
As for finances, I think the most reliable solution is a subscription, with full access to the site restricted to paid up members. That would doubtless require some changes/development on the site, so back to the Webmaster question?

Another forum I frequent charges £12 per year for full access,I would be happy with that.Obviously that still leaves the person in charge problem........

Thanks to all for your empathies.. It must be what it's like floating in a rudderless lifeboat trying to work out who to eat first!

It's interesting that the subscription idea is not being dismissed out of hand. Not my favourite idea, as It's always been a free club, but an option for a way forward.
One stumbling block for that is the fact that it would have to be administered and as has been pointed out would fall into the lap of the already jaded webmaster.
If my idea to pay a professional webmaster is possible then a few costings would get us to a subscription fee and we would be in a survivable state.
DaveR is starting to work on the present club costs to get a figure we need, excluding a webmaster for the time being.

In the meantime volunteers to seek banner advertisers would solve many issues and possibly circumvent the need for a subscription..
VACANCY STILL OPEN.

Rob may have something up his sleeve regarding a paid webmaster, we are thinking about this, but it's a realm I don't understand.

Paid membership is too much web-work for this purpose (it really is!) and we might not be many "enough" to make the club forum active "enough". It has to be open, I think.

Maybe it also is too much work (not really, but might seem so) to follow this little idea; contribute by PayPal and get your name on a wall / have "someone" (him again...) change your profile to "Hero Member" (type of member can be changed?). Once every five years or so, change the unpaid "Hero" memberships back to normal. Easy as that (famous last words)

Thanks Lars for asking me to have a happy face and then p!ssing on my fireworks in the very next post.

VACANCIES STILL OPEN.

^ Don't worry,
It’s a peculiar English speaking aphorism, essentially, you are accused of stopping a bright idea before the idea has taken flight.

the point everyone seems to be missing is;
if no one wants to step up and take responsibilty for leading the club/forum forward it's not sustainable, i've done my bit but i'm fucked if i'm continuing to moderate, arbitrate and make final decisions etc as well as doing all the tech stuff apparently no one understands for another twenty years.
step up or say goodbye ... simples

Pull the plug Rob,both you and Gary have had enough and no-one else wants to take it on.

Rob, given the level of apathy that these recent threads have generated, I'm resigned to the fact that there is no one who is willing to take over all the responsibilities from you. I spoke to Gazza in the week and although no one wants to be the one to shut the club down, we both accept it needs doing, if nothing else it will give you some peace and sanity.
Gary's earlier proposal seems best, pull the plug on 31st March.
Dave

What I actually said was that I would be finally and completely resigning on March 31st.
But it seems that the die is cast.
So there you go folks looks like it's the end of the road. UKMOC is over.
Buzzbomb and Capo would turn in their graves as would many of the devotees over the years. Can't say I'm overjoyed myself!

What used to be the Norfolk area group has morphed into a multi-County band of brothers and we are active all year round and will continue to be so, under the p!ss take banner of Clunkers MC. So called after a rant by a departing member of UKMOC who's face did not fit.
I send out a monthly newsletter by email, to notify the location of our next meet and any other worthy news.
If you want to stay in touch or even meet up with us at some point please DM me your email address and I'll put you on the email group.

Well it looks like it's really going to happen unless we get a meaningful proposal from anybody who's willing to save it, so now is the time.
