I have been thinking of putting on an ohlins steering damper to calm down the front end on really fast (90 -100mph ) corners . I have a damper (63mm stroke ) and would like to mount it across the front of the tank . has anybody else done this and where does one get a fitting kit ?

:booze:

A steering damper on a small, not particularly powerful, budget bike?
I think you're missing the point somewhere, TBH......

Havent found the need for one on my 696 yet - and its been ragged round Brands doing 56's without a headshake in std road trim, also stable on the road on rideouts regularly with 9**'s & 1098's :D

Had one on my M1000sie - now that DID need it on hard acceleration, also had one on the racebike M800's this year - only needed for one racetrack tho (Mallory) where a combination of bumpy track & acceleration made the head shake :) not required for the other tracks - even Brands where Clint was putting in 51's

C :)

You're running 56s round Brands C?

Not me you plank! :D - that was with Super Clint in the seat - and he thought he'd get at least 3 more seconds, but he didnt want to bin it in trying! :D
We thought it would be worth a giggle to stick it in the streetfighter B class - tho it would need PC etc fitted & engine work to get it 'there'.

I had a steering damper on an H2 750 err didn't make a huge difference but then the front wheel was always a bit light well when the wheel was on the ground, even when it was the rubber frame wasn't a huge help; and a Foale chassis CB500 where one worked a treat, never needed one on anything else though.
Usually getting the suspension dialed in to suit your riding style is the best thing to do first.

When i had my 696 one of things i did realise straight away was how at speeds if u just wobble the steering just a tiny bit,it feels like it wants to go into a tank slapper.
I think this might be bcos of the short wheel base.
You can get a good damper that fits on the m1100 from ducati, maybe it will fit on the 696.
