Ducati monster s4rs ohlins bottom yoke triple clamp top yoke s4r s2r s4 r

Does anyone know why they call them triple clamps?
I would think a triple clamp refers to those bottom yokes with deep clamping areas and 3 bolts used for fork leg clamping.

I always thought it was because it "clamps" three pipes together :look:

triple trees, rather than clamps was quite a common expression in the us

the germans call them gabelbruck which literally translates as forkbridge

Because it clamps three items via the top and bottom clamps..ie two fork legs and the steering stem......
