2007 tank clasp hitting lock barrel trim

I can only guess that the moisture problems are only going to become worse for all the seldom used machinery with the rise of E10. It's not easy for some to find a pump with E5 let alone ethanol free.
 
Gosh, the old swelling tank issue, mine's still swollen and the catch is tight but the paint is fine so I have left it alone.

I do have another tank that hasn't had fuel in for years that I have looked at getting it sealed but haven't done it yet

It's also green, I could swap it over as I also have a green seat cover but I don't have a fairing the same colour so it lives under the bed. I do also have green mudguards and side panels, but I will stick with the DP carbon ones....

Oh, and all fuel down here in Cornwall has ethanol even E5, always has.
 
Hi all, I have elongated the hinge holes a bit more and the tank now fits fine, while it was off I gave it a good polish and ceramic coating.

Only problem now is I don’t know which of the two fuel hoses goes to which outlet in the pump on the bottom of the tank Both look to go to a cylinder each, whereas on the bottom of the pump it says IN and OUT, are they both not OUT?s…?

One of the hoses has a white collar 6 inches down with an M on it and it looks to go to the front cylinder….

Which hose goes to which pump outlet please…?

Out of the tank through the delivery hose "Mandata" to both injectors - whatever is left returns to the tank.
 
Not correct. Mandata to one injector after the other and then return.

Don't know how it works on these but on a 916, M (Mandata) is out and R (Ritorno) is return.

But, in fact it doesn't matter which way round you connect them as, because the pressure regulator is in the tank after the 'rail' then it works either way. - maybe lines up better if correct though.
 
(I did actually label both the hoses a week or so ago when I took the tank off but Sod’s Law the labels (masking tape!) both fell off!!)
 
On my 916 there was a plastic ring type label on the lines : 'M' and 'R' plus the original (plastic) quick-release tank fittings were colour coded; black for M and white for R so you couldn't mix them up (unless you were trying) but, like I said it doesn't matter anyway as the injectors are in a loop with fuel flowing to them and back to the tank, the pressure is kept constant by the regulator in the tank after the return line.

If you look closely, you can see 'IN' and 'OUT' stamped by the fittings, the regulator is the silver thing with an open outlet on it;

If you look in the tank whilst it's running you'll see the excess fuel returning through the swirl pot, some think that's a fault but it's how it's supposed to work though, if you get a split line in the tank it does spray around excessively.

Not familiar with S4 but can't imagine the setup is much different?
 
The one with the white ring is Out and the red one return. On the Monster the pressure regulator is not in the tank but in the fuel line by the injectors so it does matter which way they go. Reversing them will not regulate the pressure correctly.
 
KTM's used ascerbis tanks, they were all the 'wrong' nylon as were those fitted by Ducati.
The US used a group action court case to get replacements and replacements of already replaced tanks that had swollen.
We just got pee'd on

Fair enough, like my V8 landrover where the regulator is at the end of the fuel rail, after all the injectors so you absolutely need to connect it up correctly.
 
My catch hasn't fitted properly for ages (maybe the last two years?)

Anyway, inspired by this thread, I slotted the mounting holes on the rear tank mount and I can (just) get everything to fit. Though only using two bolts, the third one doesn't match up now. Better than having the tank loose at the front :)

I recently got a 3D printer and I bought an enclosure for it that's kind of like a growing tent for enthusiasts of the devil's cabbage. Mostly use it to keep a warm, dry environment for the filaments as they are hygroscopic.
I've got desiccants in there as well as a small 25w heater that I used to use for home brewing.

The winter plan is to use it to put my tank in and see if I can get it to shrink at all. Will be better than my cold, damp garage!

Anyway, FWIW, the enclosure was about £35 (and it comes with a temperature and moisture meter), the desiccants cost about another £12 for a couple of them and you can get a little heater for £20 more if you need it.
Could be a good set up if anyone else is trying it over winter.
