New to Ducati, and looking forward to the experience!

Hello All,

Have decided to join UKMOC whilst moving away from Buell and Harley. Saw the 2014 Monster 1200s at the motorcycle show this year and really liked all the thought put into the engineering of that bike. Shortly after test rode the twin spark Multistrada from last year which sealed the deal! (Placed a deposit on a new Monster 1200s the same day)

Looking forward to my new ride this March and being part of the Ducati community. Hope to be a active member of UKMOC, join in events, learn from other members and participate in discussions.

Thank You

Duke1200s

Welcome to the club. Have they actually given you a rough delivery slot ?
Given you've ordered so late I'd be surprised if it turned up any time soon, but lucky you if you have.

Hello and welcome to the forum Duke1200s.

There seems to be lots of opinions on the new 1200 Monster, it would be good if you could create a review and post it on here.

I would mind another 45BHP although I wish it was Air Cooled.

New to Ducati, and looking forward to the experience!

Thank you everyone for the replies!

Delivery of bike will be end of March, I have chosen to add the options LED indicators and Termi end cans. I am very excited about this piece of kit and get my first ride on a demo 1200s at the weekend. I will let you all know how it goes.

I am not sure how the current air cooled Monsters ride, but I am familiar with the air cooled Buell's. There is certainly something very special about an air cooled motor, I know some of that will be lost on the new Monster but hopefully the increase in power will make up for it.

I am looking for some advice of Ducati anti-theft system. Has anybody had experience with their system, is it a worth while addition or just a waste of time. I have had data tool systems on previous bikes, that i have had to rip out and smash to pieces out of frustration.

So hopefully see you all on the road very soon!

Hello, and welcome.

After a period on Buells and Harleys, be prepared to be astounded at just how smooth (and revvy) a v-twin can be if you get the, er....."right" angle between the cylinders.

Personally, I don't like onboard alarms as they are prone to glitches which can also disable the bike and leave you stranded.
I use a Xena alarmed disc lock.
The batteries used to only last a short while, but talking to the rep at the Milan show, I'm told that they have addressed the issue in the latest models.
Couple one of those with a lightweight/cheap disclock/s on the other wheel/disc and perhaps a lightweight, cable-type padlock in high-risk situations, and you have a system which will probably foil most thieves unless they're really determined (in which case nothing will stop them).
And you can use it all on any other bike too.

Another option might be a cheap tracker.
There are some available for as little as a tenner from China, though I haven't been able to try one yet (one was ordered but failed to turn up).

Oh, and give some thought to NOT using the steering lock.
Your average scrote will only bust it anyway, and the ducati one is fairly beefy so there might be collateral damage to other parts too.
My Dommie is on its third steering lock thus far, and its been broken. I'll probably not bother fixing it again as the electrics still work.

The Ducati Anti theft system (immobiliser) will get you your insurance discount but is no substitute for an Alarm/tracker if you want peace of mind.
I rode a 1200s on Saturday and I's be surprised if anyone was disappointed, very civilised compared with any Buell/Harley/Aircooled Ducati I've ever ridden and yet a complete animal at the same time.
