Picked up the SF848 from Char this morning. Riding to Sheffield on it tomorrow.

Strange not to have a Monster after 5 years, but Char's bike was too good to pass up. It is a very nicely upgraded and accessorised bike. It also handles better than the brand new one I test rode. Just got to temporarily fit some original Ducati mirrors on it for the ride to/from Sheffield before ordering some suitable Rizoma ones.

Thank you Damion...

That's your best ever post...

Worst thing that Ducati ever did was call it "streetfighter", it should have been a monster S4 whatever as it certainly is what the original monster was, a naked super bike.

And try and insure one!! mention streetfighter to the muppets at some insurance companies and they think it's some kind of crashed jap bike...

OAP rant over.

Ah, but does he really mean it, or.....
Is he just playfully pressing the "what is a monster?" button ?

A monster that's had a style makeover, perhaps ?
A "Mr Hyde" to our "Dr Jekylls" maybe.
Certainly ticks the main boxes anyway.

Glad you're sorted after the demise of the evo.

I think of the Streetfighter as the next stage in the S4 development, but they didn't call it a Monster because their marketing department wanted to keep the Monster brand separate and wanted to create a new Streetfighter brand to tap into a market that they felt the Monster brand couldn't.

I'm not bothered what they call it. I'm interested in a bike that I feel comfortable on and like to ride. I was instantly at home on the M1100 when I bought my first one in 2010 and the same with Char's SF848. Less so with the M821 and M1200S that I test rode. I found their riding positions less comfortable than the SF848, which was really the opposite of what I expected. The engine of the SF848 is a step up from the M1100, but not as bonkers as the M1200S which seemed to think hard about it when you opened the throttle before deciding to fire you into the sunset. I could see myself ending up being buried in a hedge somewhere if I had one of them.

As for insurance.......with all of the additional bits on Char's bike it did take several days of toing and froing before the underwriters eventually agreed that I could insure it on my existing policy.

I would love to be able to say that it couldn't have gone to a better home.

But it could have... MINE!!!

Lovely bike, always loved the look of Char's bike, although still never seen it in the flesh. Enjoy it!!

And let me know if you wake up one morning and decide you made a terrible mistake.

Oh no I mean it. They should have bit the bullet and called it the next Monster. I'm 100% certain that option was on the table at some point but that the decision went against it. A son of a king is a son of a king, whether his mother was the queen or the scullery maid!

The what is a Monster debate/question also applies of course, but in a tertiary fashion. For me that question was more about at what point does a customised bike, that started as a Monster cease to be one? But let's not open that can of cats here!
