Hopefully a new Monster owner soon!

Hi all

Just sold a Triumph Sprint 1050 after 2+ years ownership. Lovely bike but a bit of an impulse purchase, and it started to hurt my wrists and neck, cos I'm old-ish!

Now after a smaller engined Monster. Initially thinking a 696+ of 2014 vintage, but a few people have said a 797 is the better option for £700-900 more, so thinking I'll search down the back of the sofa.😳

Live nr Gatwick if anyone has or knows of a 797+ in red in great condition for sale.

Any ownership views / what to look out for etc very welcome. 👍

You don't see many 797s on the forum but I quite like the look of them, especially their simplicity. The only member I can recall on here with a 797 is wheatley473, who bought one in 2018. You could send him a PM to get his thoughts on the bike.

If you liked the look of the 696, have you also considered the 796? Almost identical in looks but with the single-sided swinging arm. The 797 motor is based on the 796 but in a lower state of tune, so the 796 is actually the more powerful of the two, despite being older.

A 796 is a possibility, but slightly older as you say. More power because a 797 has Euro4 emissions? 🤔 Would need to be quite bit cheaper than a 797 to tempt me. Open to all suggestions though.

Pretty much, yes. And the 797 has less valve overlap than the 796, which translates to less power but probably a better behaved motor at lower and mid-range speeds.

Try to test ride the various options and see which suits you best.

Note that the 797 won't meet Euro5 so you might find dealers discounting them if they can't shift their stock. (But, as they have till the end of 2022 to sell them, don't hold your breath!)

Welcome to the Monster clan, I'm in the fortunate position of owning a Sprint ST 1050 and an 1100 Evo.....I tour Europe annually with my missus and since the acquisition of the Evo the Sprint has been reserved for these trips + some domestic touring, at which it exels.
Both are smile inducing in their own way, the smooth wide torque curve of the triple gives it an almost turbine quality, while the V twin power pulse is just so involving.
Get ready to laugh your head off when you ride your favourite twisty...the Duc is just fun on wheels.....and during a long ****ty winter this forum never fails to entertain....enjoy whatever you choose.

This place seems to have a 797 and a 696 and, being in Haslemere, isn't too far from you. I don't know anything about the dealership though so, as usual, caveat emptor.

There is a 797 that I quite fancy from a large dealer who can deliver to my door. I may just do this as it looks gorgeous, and it's a Plus with the little (probably useless) fairing and the rear seat cover.

Any questions I should ask the dealer before I buy online without actually going to see it?

As with any Ducati, check the service record. Go onto the Ducati website and download the relevant owners' manual. In it, you'll find the service schedule and you can see what jobs should have bee done or are due to be done at the current mileage.

A valve check can be expensive so if one is due or imminent and hasn't been done either get the dealer to do it, (if they specialise in Ducatis), or negotiate a discount and take it to a Ducati specialist for a service once you've got it.

The same goes for the cam belts - if going by the book, older bikes should have them changed every two years but the newer models, including the 797, can go five years between changes.

Agreed on the pearl white - I've changed my Evo from red to pearl white.

Thanks for sorting the access thing. Couldn't use Natty Boy as a password, as it would mean thinking of the mong each time I logged in.

Appreciate the link t the 1100s advert. Very cool, just concerned a 2010 bike, even if fairly low mileage. Have a few things to weigh up now.

Looked a nice bike for the money and coming from Rich it’ll be in good order
