Are those clocks specific to the '02 1000SS? I don't see any like them on ebay, mostly Monster clocks but none of the digital type as fitted to '02 on Monsters, but they mostly had black or grey dials but I imagine the insides would be the same.

I stripped mine down right to the point where the needles need to come off.

Will give it another go so I can at least see if there is anything obvious on the PCB/A.

Yep, unfortunately I think they are, the White faces making them unique, and of course are coded to the ECU via the immobiliser, although that last bit is easily rectifiable if the ECU has a short holiday at Avanti Race parts.

Not sure where I go from here as all the companies I've contacted today are reluctant to take on the repair because it's not the usual LCD gone down.

Might have to invoke my plan B and build separate circuits for the indicators and High Beam warning light.

Yea, it'd be the white faces which were unique to the SS, the monster clocks of the same era are the same but without the white but even they go for silly money. IIRC the 900SSie I had used the old 916 style clocks which are plentyful ironically, but that was before '02 of course.

The later Sport Classic had white faced dials but I think they were made by someone else not Marelli so although they look similar the insides could be different, maybe? Even so you'd probably have to pay through the nose for Sport Classics clocks given the s/hand prices of the bikes.

Yea, I was tempted to put a bid on these for spares, but expected they would go for a lot more than £100! Hey ho, KPH anyhow, but I could live with that.

I had to strip down my M800 instruments,which are the same, as I had near enough the same problems as you, it turned out a couple of the diodes???, (I am sorry I don't know the tech term for the tiny square things) had came off and were rattling about in the cluster. A friend who was a BT technician, and who can virtually sign his name in solder, solder them back on for me and they worked no problem.

It was easy to get the back off and the needles came off as described here , post 6

If I can get the needles off I'm more than capable of soldering components back down, even SMT ones.

Will strip it back down tomorrow evening hopefully and have a look.
With luck it will be the same issue.

I'm working US hours today and doing training online so can't try tonight.

I managed to finally sort this out.

I tried a couple of times to get the needles off, but was convinced I was going to break something.

I sent the cluster off to a specialist who returned them unfixed saying they could not remove the needles!

So I had to develop plan C.

I pulled the PCB off the moulding clips as far as possible, then used a Dremel to cut out the webs in the plastic moulding that covered the Resistors.
Those parts of the moulding do nothing, so won't be missed.
That gave me plenty of room to remove the resistor hanging on by one end and then solder down two new 1206 size resistors.

My equipment at home is quite limited, specifically I don't have a backlit magnifier, so I'm not happy at all with the standard of my soldering, but they work.
When I'm back to work rather than working from home I'll get the soldering redone to Class 3 repair standards, which by the look of it will be the best on the board.

Pleased I've got this one sorted.
