I've only got them in naked Stainless Steel I'm afraid.
They would chemically blacken okay I imagine, but I think you would find that uneconomical to do just one unless you have a bucketful of other bits to do. I believe you can get chemical blackening kits, but not sure for Stainless?

All I can suggest is a blast of Hammerite, but I suspect that it will be prone to chipping and leaving bright spots since if it's doing its job, it will be taking knocks from stones and chippings.

I didn't think of that, but again it would have to be in a batch to be economical.

I'm not sure if the coating would try and bridge the holes in the mesh or form blobs or webs at all those little joins. I'm sure a good powder coater would know just how much to put on to make a good job?

I decided to upgrade these guards by supplying them with replacement screws in A2-70 stainless steel. We found that the original screws are quite short in the first place sometimes and are too short with the addition of just a 1.5mm thick bracket.
So, I've rectified this with the screw length fitted to the later SS models, which also hold a fairing bracket.. Sorted.

Kits now come to £31 posted, including screws and take into account postage increases.

Welcome aboard, Jim!

Unfortunately, the oil coolers on the classic Monsters are completely different from the 1100 version and so Mr Gazza's protector won't fit your bike.

You can however fit the grille from the 696, which is part no. 46013431A and no. 15 on the diagram.

For some reason, the 696 came with a guard while neither the 796 not 1100 has one. The oil cooler surround is the same on all three models so the grille will fit your bike with no problems (you may have to use some dabs of epoxy to secure the grille to the surround).

Hello Jim and welcome.
Thanks for your enquiry, but I don't think they will fit the more modern bikes.
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the M1100 oil cooler and I don't very often run into anyone with one.
Luddite has had an M900 and now has an 1100 so he might be able to throw some light on compatibility, although he has posted earlier on this thread saying that he would have a guard if he still had his 900. I think that implies that he knows they won't fit the 1100?

You might be able to find something on ebay as the 1100 is still fairly contemporary. Part of the reason I designed these was because I couldn't find much for the earlier bikes.

The bike has just arrived - and I find it already has one fitted, I think it’s factory. Would seem the designers recognised the vulnerability of the radiator. Just got to now find my way around it!

If it looks factory then the previous owner probably fitted the 696 part as above, which saves you the bother
