Is a ducati for me
Hi all Ive been wanting a ducati for as long as i can remember but only ever had jap bikes zzr600 and gsxr600 srad since passing my test but over the last two years I have not been riding as arthritis and hip problem made the gsxr a no go so now I've sold the gsxr and am now looking at the monster. Is this a good bike for someone that needs the higher more upright riding position rather than the knees by my armpit position also which model to go for looking at the earlier models any advise welcome please

Sounds like a 796 or 1100 would suit you, pop down to your nearest ducati dealer and sit/ test ride them. I think you will find them more comfortable than some of the older monsters.

Gareth I've delivered a couple of monsters in your area recently so pop down to DMC Moto in Preston and have a demo thats what they're there for and you can then make your mind up...

I have an 800 Monster - very well behaved, no temperamental issues. I have handlebar risers and it gives a really good riding position - not prostrate over the tank

Any monster in standard trim will have a more upright riding position than your previous bikes.
The low seat height helps here. I'd say that you need to try one, particularly since the engine characteristics will be rather different to your 600 screamers........ chances are that you'll like the difference, but its not to everyone's taste. I also had lusted after a Ducati for a long while (since 1974). My monster (M750) has become, in my eyes, the best all-round roadster ever built....its a definite keeper. The moral of this story being.....you should probably scratch that itch. The rest depends on your budget and your inclinations. From my own experiences, anything from the 750 upwards will do the business, and prices probably start at a little under £2k. You're well positioned for an end of season deal. |

Use this website to compare the riding positions of different bikes http://cycle-ergo.com
The most recent Monsters (821 and 1200) have a more upright riding position than most previous Monsters. I have owned an M1100 and M1100evo. Although neither are sports bike in their riding position the pegs are quite high. The DP touring seat helps, but my hips is one area that tends to suffer a bit during long (300+ miles) rides. |
