New boy says 'which Monster' ????
Hi all
I am new to this forum but not new to Italian bikes. Having owned 97 900ss, 95 M900, 03 Multistrada. A few other V twins including a Tuono, a TL and just to be different a Cagiva Navigator (fantastic bike by the way) Anyway I now find myself in the market for another Ducati and I am looking for your opinions. My short list is all air cooled......S2r 1000, M1100, M1100s or 1100evo. All have pros and cons but I'm interested to hear your opinions and experiences. Cheers. |

Hello and welcome.
All good bikes. None match the magnificence of the M600 of course but you can work up to that |

Another can of worms opened, but if you want a Monster that lives up to the name with monster power then it has to be S4 or S4R with the ultimate being the S4RS! But they all have their plus points eg 750 or 800 being the best all rounders and original M900 obtaining dreaded 'classic bike' status prices on the climb.
There's a nice early 900sie on ebay atm at just under £2k and local to me? Which would be an great buy at that price. How much do you have to spend?

Oh with that budget you should be looking at 1100 evo's then? Anyway here's the bike, not anything to do with me btw but I did bid on it last time it was on. I'm not sure if the original seller has relisted it or if it is the new owner using old pics.
I was highest bidder at 2k right until the last minute and it went for 2200 in the end. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Mon...kAAOSwGotWliox

If it has to be air cooled then the S2R 1000 would be a great bike, most S2's are 800 and I think they only made the S2R 1000 for a year, so they are quite rare, Evos are a lot more common and would probably be a bit better on paper but the S2 has the classic Monster shape. Given the choice personally for me it would have to be the S2R 1000 everytime, besides which you may be looking more at 7.5 for a nice Evo?

+1 for the evo, biased as well. But it really is a great bike, only 100bhp so not wild by any stretch but still fun. the torque will keep you entertained and make it difficult for other bikes to keep up on the twisties.
There's a few on ebay around the 7ish mark. I paid 7.5k for a 13 plate delivered from down south with 1700miles on it, ohlins shock, termis, and loads of nice evotech equipment fitted. |

There is a beautiful 1100 Evo on auto trader for 7k, think is at Metropolis in London, low miles, amazing condition and very rare colours, maybe body kit, I want t but can't afford it.
