But the lineage of a naked, 90deg v-twin roadster goes back to the first 750cc bevels.
Whatever you call it, the iconic Ducati v-twin roadster is an aircooled 750.
.... some might say .....

Hello, and welcome.

What Utopia says is absolutely correct but of course back then they were never known as 'naked roadsters' as almost all bikes back then had no fairings.

As for the original Monster thing- the story I always heard was that Galluzzi was using what was essentially a parts bin unfaired 888 cobbled together to commute to work on and his little boy said it looked like a monster.

That's what I heard too, its in the Monster Bible, he cobbled together a bike from whatever bits he could find around the factory, in order to make a bike to commute to work on, 888 frame and engine and a round headlight from an old bevel etc.

Management saw him parking it up one day and liked what he had created and asked him to design a production version for them.

And so the original Monster was conceived with a 4V engine, it was only due to the company's poor financial situation at that time that the 900SS engine was used instead because they had a load going spare.
