S2r 1000

There's an Ducati S2R 1000 for sale locally which has a non standard exhaust on, but package includes standard cans.

In order to swap exhausts, is there anything else involved apart from simply unbolting one and fitting the other ? i.e. does it involve ECU remapping ?

Also are there any known issues with the S2R to look out for ?

Thanks in advance....

S2R have a cat so if you swap to exhaust without a cat you will need to disable it in standard ecu or use DP ecu. May also need some remap due to cat removal for optimum performance. I think there will be some online maps you can use for decat setup.

For starters I would say that it would be a far better proposition than trying to convert an SS into a Monster.

They are fine machines and the 1000 engine is a peach.

When you say exhaust do you mean the exhaust system or just the silencers?
Can swaps rarely need too much tweaking with maps and the like, it depends how far you go.

the cat itself is not a problem, the question is has the lambda sensor been disabled. not really enough info in op to advise fully.

That's what I meant thanks for clarifying Rob. The lamda sensor plugs into the cat and adjusts fuel mixture to keep the cat at the optimum temperature, protecting the cat from damage. You don't need the lamda sensor if you ditch the cat.

More info on the bike in question would be useful. As Gazza says is it just the end cans? In which case you dont need to do much, maybe tweak the o2 setting but if its set up for the open cans it will probably be fine as is.

This is another way to do it without changing ecu settings:

If it's the red one 12700 miles with Danmoto cans. Then it has a decat and the cans are slip on 45mm so you should be able to put the standard end cans back on with the decat pipe. That's probably what I'd do too as I'm not a fan of the Danmotos. Then keep a look out for a decent s/hand Italian brand slip ons.

As regards known issues 2 with all bikes of that era that I can think of is the tank swelling issues, which can cause cosmetic damage to paint and also poor fit on the frame and ignition switch. Some so bad you cant lift the tank.

As with all single sided swing arm bikes you can overtigthen the pinch bolts and damage the hub and there were some issues with the cush drive backing out and eating the swingarm.

Engine paint blistering and coming off. Looking at that one it looks bad, like battery acid damage to me.

Some have mentioned soft valve seats with tge DS motors but I don't know any more, what years etc.

Yes, it is that one. I'm popping round to have a look at it this weekend, so thanks for the advice.
Also popping along to the open day at OYB in Aylesbury on Saturday.

I just thought of another with the clocks pack up. Any bike of that era on the original clocks will be rare. So check the mileage matches the MOT history. I think there is a website.

The tank on my '07 has grown in length so the hinge has had to be moved back to clear the ignition switch. But I've seen others that have swelled width ways that the rubber bumpers no longer fit on the frame rails. And others where the paint has blistered and come off.

I've got a spare tank that has not seen e5 fuel just in case.

That was an issue on early (2003) Multistradas with the 1000DS motor, but it was valve guides rather than seats. The guides wore fairly quickly, leading to slight blue smoke on start up. They sorted it out pretty quickly I think by fitting harder guides,, certainly by 2005 there was no longer an issue

All,
Thanks for the advice re. the S2R 1000. It's given me plenty of food for thought.

I think I'll sit back for a while and then start a new thread asking for advice about Monsters in general and listing some criteria as to what I'm after, and what my budget is, and go from there.

ITM, thanks again, and keep the shiny side up (which might confuse Buzzer as his bikes are shiny all over) !!
