Newbie from Basildon area....

Hi everybody!! Passed my test at about 1400 hrs today, and was out in and around Basildon 5 hours later. Yeah it took 2 hours to insure, tax and prep the bike and another 3 for the rain to stop! So, I rode out at dusk, did some straight A roads, and then a few mild twisties then pootled around town.

I am totaly new to bikes, and even newer on Monsters. I fell in love with them when I started looking for a bike and bought my 6k M Plate 600 before I passed my test - I just had to have her.

I was NOT dissapointed!!! I love the sound of the fully open throttle, and the engine threatening to suck small animals into the carbs!! It's just awesome!!

Suffice to say I came home, and will be up early tomorrow for some more miles before work.

I work in the Basildon area so am about Monday to Thursdays and then I bugger off elsewhere to the Berks/Herts/Surrey area to "socialise" at weekends.

So I joined this club to learn about the scene, the bike and hopefully get to ride out with some of you.

I'm a newbie and still cr*p myself..... but always with a BIG grin.

Cheers

Kez

Well a very big welcome to the club then. Plenty of help and advice on offer if you need it as lots of owners had the 600's.
There are a number of owners East of London, North East Kent, Essex, so they'll be plenty for you to join in on if you fancy it.
There's a regular meeting on the 1st Saturday of the month in the Docklands, and the 2nd Sunday of the month in Northern Kent somewhere. You'd be more than welcome to come along, though over the next month it may be quiet because a lot of members are riding off to Italy for World Ducati Week, me included.

See you around.

Hi and welcome, I'm in Southend, so we should meet up sometimes for a ride out. Don't forget lots of people meet up at the D**k Turpin on the 127 tuesday nights (even thought I very rarely attend it..).Getting up earlier to go for a ride? now that's dedication..

And I forgot to say, congratulations on passing your test, just in time for the summer.

Thanks everybody - put about 200 miles on her since Tuesday

Pomp - Yeah I heard about the Turpin meets, may go along with a few of the guys at work to see what the crack is about and deffo should meet up for a ride out. Went to the seafront today, ohh heads turned

Sadly my diary is full most weekends this month so no group rideouts for me, but maybe July or August. Would have loved to do the Brighton run, sounds awesome!

I have some tech questions, so will post these elsewhere I guess, after I trawl the forum for answers...

Summer is gonna be great - and already have a sly eye looking out for a bigger / better Monster.

Could do with an owner having a look over my Monster, I wouldn't know good from bad.... it looks well looked after and feels OK. Milk on the sight glass, dead spedo and neutral being a bitch to find is all that I gripe about right now.

Maybe thats just normal for a 16 your old bike?

Milky sight glass is common to do with short runs and not warming the engine fully. It'll clear, no problems there. The neutral, errm, my wife's 600 is a similar age and has the same problem, I think it's just a ducati thing in the early ones. It's really easy to select neutral when pulling up and sod once stopped so select before you stop.

Hope that helps.

Pomp - Sure thing! Enjoy, and give me a buzz when you get back.

Dave - Thanks, and noted about the neutral thing. It's dead easy to select when rolling to a stop. Need to train the brain.... The milk hasn't cleared up yet and I have done a few hour+ runs now. Long enough? I guess I could just flush and change the oil for peice of mind? If it comes back then I can put it down to the "Ducati thing"? Thanks for the advice!!

Jungle - Yeah, I'm there "most" weekends so could ride out soon. I'm sure I can get away from the missus for an hour or two!! Will let you know when it's likely, I have a few trips planned already this month. Looking at some cans already, but not sure what to get. Nothing to expensive I guess, but I love the twin pipes on one side (over and under) look. Can I do that with Termi's? They are the king of cans right?

Cheers guys!

Let me know re-rideout Kez and Im there and just up the road from Ricky. I am trying to organise a regular meet the the Ace cafe in London so keep an eye on that thread and you could always pop along to that too.
Re the cans I went for some Sil Moto hi level carbon fibre one which sit on each side up high.
Its a big debate re Termis, they are an amazing can and sound lovely but can be very expensive and there are lots of good alternatives out there. I find the Sils lovely with the baffles in or out. I have a really rich deep tone and its not offensive. Apparantly the build quality is equal to if not better than the termis as you can replace the carbon sleeve once worn. They were approx £600 opposed to almost £1000 for termis, but then again there is always the used ebay option or on the for sale section of this site. In fact there was a guy in Watford who had a set of termis recently but you're best reading through the threads to see if still for sale.
On my old 620ie I bought some Ducati Performance Remus cans for about £300 and they were great too.
Joe is your man at Spareshack for new stuff he is very helpful and has lots of knowledge. When choosing my cans he emailed me vids and pics of different options which really helped me make my decision.
Look forward to hearing from you soon and hitting the roads!
Jim
