Hi Bigredduke, what can I say apart from read this if you have not already done so.

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=50851

Now as I had come straight off a tricked up 748R and as an ex club racer I liked pretty adjustable shocks for my riding style, your need is not as mine was, so possibly the 640 shown in the link maybe more suitable for your needs.

I can not rate Revs racing service highly enough or the Wilbers product.

enough said I guess :-)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and in these uncertain Brexit times, who of those for voters knew the import taxes would go up, duh! The Nitron certainly makes way more sense than any of the others and their customer service is also pretty good from what I've read on here too.

If I hadn't already spent £4-500 on the Ohlins I would be looking at the same spec Nitron one for sure.

Well, the bullet has been bitten!

I dropped the fork legs off at JWR suspension near Louth, Lincolnshire today for James to sort out.

He is going to fit Ktech fork piston valves & upgraded flow control valves (compression adjusters) & springs to suit my not inconsiderable weight.

Ohlins rear shock on order but probably won't arrive until late March. Apparently the Brexit effect has not been as positive on supply chains as some might have had us believe (who knew???)

He told me he was moving into Peter Hickman's unit across the way soon as it was much bigger with the idea that there would be various specialists in one place. That is my idea of a great hangout!

A question about said Marzocchi forks fitted to the Evo. Am I correct in assuming that the actual fork legs (the "tubes" for want of a better term) are actually ok quality, it's just the internals that are lacking?

Good move!

The fork bodies themselves are fine. Once you've had the internals upgraded, you should be very happy with them. You'll probably get K-Tech seals as part of the upgrade, which are, I think, better quality than the OE ones.

The only possible upgrade you could make to the fork bodies would be to have the chrome coated in either TiN or DLC to minimise stiction. But that would be another £200 minimum and you'd have to remove the fork bottoms, which can be tricky. Probably wouldn't notice much difference on the road anyway.

By the way, who have you ordered your Öhlins shock from?

The tubes are fine Paul, some of the really expensive stuff might be a fraction lighter and the coatings a bit slippier but they work the same. The magic happens where the oil goes through the valves and by selecting the right springs.

By the way, when you reinstall the forks, use this diagram to set them at the right height.

Torque settings are 24Nm for the top yoke and 22Nm for the lower tightened in the order 1-2-1. (Use moly grease on the threads and under the heads.)

As that is just 15 miles from me I would be interested to know how much he charges (if you dont mind). I knew he does Ohlin's, not aware he did Ktech.

Front forks are my next upgrade.

James (JWR) is an Ohlins agent so I ordered it from him. The price quoted was pretty standard from my research. I might have been able to get it a few quid cheaper online but I want the bike set up properly so I thought it made sense to use just one supplier.

Thanks for the diagram Vince, by coincidence, I looked at it last night in the workshop manual before dropping the legs out just to check first.

I've just realised that I now have a good reason not to go on a diet.

"Yes dear, I know I'm fat but I've just spent all this money setting the bike up for my weight, you wouldn't want me to waste it would you now?"

hmmm, new springs seems like a reasonable overhead to avoid another heart attack Paul ;-)
Plus the performance increase in losing 10kg is most excellent... even though you might need to factor in smaller leathers too :-O

Sad thing is.........I know you are right. Although I would argue my heart attack was caused by work stress not overweightness!

BTW, if I do lose weight, I won't need to buy new leathers, the ones I have will just fit me nicely instead of looking like a burst mattress
