Ducati seamless gearbox for roadbikes?

Ingenious! (Not sure how I missed this when it hit the news last year.)

Ok, it's maybe not relevant to us Monster owners, but I can imagine it being offered as a USP on a future Panigale and then perhaps trickling down to the first update of the new Monster.

So now there will be be 3 sprag clutches, one operating at the speed and torque of the starter motor and 2 operating at max engine revs less the primary gear reduction and max torque - that should work? and no need for a complete engine strip when it doesn't ???

Interesting engineering , but materials used and production quality of the stressed parts will be critical for long life ,, the locking bearings remind me of CETME and H&K delayed roller locking guns mechanism like G3 rifle

Be interesting to see how long the locking bearings last with quickshifter up changes and down changes.

Modern electronics and power increases have reduced lap times on trackdays considerably, puts a lot of strain on the gearbox banging down three or four for a slow corner.

My copy of the March(!) edition of Bike dropped through the letterbox today and they've got an interesting article on seamless boxes including the patented Ducati design.

So, if you want to learn more, the magazine should be in the shops from Wednesday 27th January.
