What a good Idea- Oval Motorcycle Centre

a friend told me about the Oval Motorcylce Centre in south london

£20 per hour and you can rent a hydraulic workbench and a full set of tools for DIY repairs

there are also mechanics on hand if you get stuck

brilliant!!

Myself and a mate had exactly the same plan in the late 70s.
We both even quit our jobs and went off to earn some quick money on the oil rigs off Aberdeen, to finance the venture.
One way or another it never came to fruition though.

Are people that desperate for a DIY workshop? Because although I'm not in London I'd be happy to rent my workshop out at £10/hour, I've even got alot of Ducati specific tools.

Maybe it's just Londoners who would pay?...

DukeDesmo - space is at a bit more of premium in these parts

many ppl dont have space to work on their bikes as they live parked on the street. Tools are not cheap and take up space, as do things like paddock stands. also if your alternative is paying the likes of ducati delarship Metropolis (who are just up the road) £90 per hour for servicing it could be a very good way to save cash

im lucky enough to have a garage and a few tools when i can do bits of work and have willing mates with the skills (mainly thanks the this wonderful place) but if i was doing something big where a workbench would help, or something that required specialist tools i'd probably use the space

As well as street parking there are plenty of people with secure parking for their flats, but nowhere to keep tools or work on bikes. Lots of those places have restrictions on doing maintenance work in the parking areas too.

I also have a garage and some tools but no light, power or water and nothing like a proper lift or any of the specialist tools - certainly nothing like bearing presses, etc. If I get stuck I really am stuck until I can figure it out (usually by asking the internet), or get my hands on the tool or part I need.

Shame it's on the wrong side of the river really!

Whilst I've read about this in mags for the last few years its only being part of the forum that brings it to life in terms of the reality of living in London. Its great to read about how differently people live. I'd find it 'challenging' to live so confined. But I guess you guys would feel the same about living in a village :-)
