Rear/underseat airbox

Anyone know what it's for? Just curious

(I'm talking about the small plastic tank thing found under the seat, seems to be connected to the airbox via a fairly large hose)

It's part of the emissions control, takes vapour and burny oily stuff out of the crankcases, Some will drop back into the cases as condensed oil and water (it's part of the milky oil syndrome) any that doesn't goes into the airbox then is burnt in the motor.

your 800cc V (L) twin breathes in and out most of it’s capacity behind the pistons with every turn of the engine, the splitter/breather box fools the engine into thinking it has a much larger capacity than it has and seperates any oil droplets out of the air steream, allowing it to drain back into the crankcase.

search the forum for ‘breather’, this was discussed at length on several threads recently
