It's really heart-warming to read all your lovely comments. Thank you so much.
We did this for Capo and on behalf of the club, as you can see the plaque bears the club logo. I think Utopia will be passing a virtual hat round soon, as I'm sure there will be some folks who would like to chip in? Big respect to Dacs for turning out on a far from ideal bike day to check on proceedings on his "winter" Monster. He takes a good photo too. I'm sure Capo was there..

Every now and then you read about something that is not headline news, but still makes you think, that confirms the good guys are all around, and reminds you that respect for your fellow mates - virtual or actual - is a huge part of our lives.
Well done to all and its a brilliant memorial.

Thats a great thought. Well done good effort chaps. The Iroko wood is a lovely colour. Should last a long time. I made my sister a gate out of the same wood. If you intend to protect it as i did, i found that the natural wood oils? Continue to come to the surface as it dries out and can compromise the finish leading to a bit of flaking.

Ha ha. Yes I've told the parish council that they'll have a job keeping paint on it and to be very careful of oil as it might stain peoples clothes, so hopefully they will take my advice and leave it bare, even though it will go silver with age.
You might find that Osma oil works on your sister's gate, but you have to keep putting it on over the years.

Thanks guys for all the kind comments.
There are some people who cross your path for a short period, then there are those who travel with you. To me, Capo was the latter. I felt touched that Capo considered me a friend. There weren't many people who earned his friendship. We travelled quite a few miles and visited some cracking bike events together. Sat in his home drinking coffee talking bikes, Ducati's in particular, and the construction industry, which I also work in. Being in his company was always entertaining! Being part of the group who put the bench together has been rewarding to say the least, and a fitting memorial. A Capo's health deteriorated over the past few years, whenever the Fenman Motorcycle Show was held in Wimbotisham, he would sit on the bench watching the world go by, whilst being supplied with coffee and cake by us three. Jeff's idea of dedicating the bench to Capo is a fitting way of remembering the old bugger!

Dacs had a little pilgrimage to the bench earlier this year to show Mrs Dacs our little homage.
He reported a big split in one of the slats. Not unknown in the early settling stages of wood, so I prepared another slat and this morning Grumpy and I met on our Monsters to replace it with tools that we could carry on bikes. Amazing what you can carry! It's all good as new again now and the plaque even got a quick buff. It's such a nice village with a good community, a fellow stopped as he passed and chatted about the bikes, then he offered to dispose of the cracked slat so I didn't have to take it home. The Chequers pub opposite brought us both cups of coffee for free even though they were not open. We chatted with the landlady about the possibility of holding a wake for Capo and some helpful suggestions were offered. This would be a good place to get together and remember Capo, maybe one Sunday afternoon in say, July? The pub serves food from 12noon onwards on Sundays and local musicians strike up in the pub garden at about 4pm. Motorcyclists are very welcome in the village. I can also get info about local B&B if anyone would like to come a distance and overnight? (Camping is available behind the pub which serves breakfast in the morning.) Anyone up for that?
