After a bit of Google action combined with looking through some old brochures it appears plastic tanks were introduced on the first wave of Darks so around 2001 for the 900ie and a year later for the 620ie.

A change they don’t mention is the battery size and position, which affected the shape of the tank underside.
They moved from the vertical mounting behind the rear cylinder, to a horizontal mounting on top of it.

I have a copy of Ian Falloon's Monster Bible, but it was late last night when I was flicking through, so didn't notice any of this. Will have another look tonight. No mention of the colour scheme on mine though, it's an S4R only. Will have a look at the sales invoice to see if it's mentioned on there. The Performance cans were only £300 quid, and the carbon hugger £150 as extras back in 2004!
