Wet or Dry Clutch?
Hi, I've been trying to find out which model year 620 Monsters had a dry clutch and which had a wet clutch? The reason for asking is that I'm looking to get a 620 Monster for my wife's first big bike and i'm concerned about getting a bike with a dry clutch as i've had problems with dry clutches grabbing in the past and want to get her a wet clutch Monster for peace of mind. I'm looking at an 02 model and there appears to be some contradictory info on web..?

All 620 are wet clutch, good luck with the hunt

Pretty much all of the mosters have wet clutches ....
except for the obvious ones that didn't, they all have a removable cover either open to show it off or a closed cover... Wet -> 400, 600, 620, 695, 696, 750, 800 and S2R Dry -> 900, 1000DS, s2r1000, 1100, s4, S4r's So in the range you're looking for it will be wet, what you might find is an APTC slipper clutch, helpfull for those that just stamp down a gear or might get themselves in a stuation where a down change might lock or give the back wheel a skip. For someone new to this kind of motor and more used to jap motors that spin up a bit faster these might be a bit of a bonus. I seem to remember reading somewhere there is an engine series that had a dry clutch hidden under a normal looking cover, didn't some of these find there way into some of the early series monsters (??) or am I making this up !!

Thank you all very much. that clears things up. I read a couple of early road test articles saying that the 600 Monster on test had a dry clutch which confused me, so it looks like perhaps a few of the early ones did use a dry clutch, but i'm looking for a late 600 (583) or early 620 so I will be fine!

Be careful with the 750's though as some (early ones) share the dry clutch of it's big brother!

I thought the only dry clutch 750 ducati-engined bikes were Cagiva Elefant

Hmmmmm......
.....now you have me thinking, trying to remember if I've seen one on a Monster.
They were definitely used on the old 750F1 and I am certain early SS's had them but maybe between those two and the Nelly they had used them all up by the time the 750 Monster rolled out of the factory.

Dry clutches were definitely used on the early SS's with the rear head 'our' way round (not the proper way?), which I believe got turned around when the original 750 Paso (also a dry clutch I think) came out so they could accommodate the fuel injection unit between the cylinders saying goodbye to those lovely open Dell'ortos.

620 Model Differences
Guys, looking at a few 620's for sale of similar age (02) I notice some have black cam belt covers and others have the lacquered finish to match the engine. Are these upgraded parts or just typical of model year differences? Are there any major differences between an older 620 and a newer one? Sorry but just being overcautious in my prospective purchase as the 620 is not familiar to me!
