Luddite as ever is correct here. I done it over winter 2019. 106 is perfect amount of links.

Ahhhhhh. Now I’m not sure about you specifically but mines came with an after market renthal carrier and sprocket already fitted. 15k miles later the sprocket was replaced by me for the 42t.

It’s possible you need a different carrier but I Didn’t do mine as such so I’m in the dark slightly. On the plus side the renthal carriers are like £40 and supreme quality so not a terrible cost.

If and when I need to change my sprocket, I plan to try one of Supersprox's stealth offerings - you get the lightness of aluminium (for the carrier) with the durability of steel (for the teeth).

Renthal uses an aftermarket carrier which is £120 or so, £150 with the sprocket which means the supersprox is maybe the way to go at £130., so far though I've only found the standard tooth sprocket available. Might have to use the wemoto kit unless further searches turn something up.

Is the Supersprox just the sprocket, albeit in 2 parts? The main advantage of the Renthal is that it replaces the standard Ducati carrier as well as the sprocket which will prevent the cush drives destroying the hub, as they are prone to do with the SSA bikes.

You can also just change the sprocket without removing the wheel and the hub assembly. handy if you do track days or just want an easier life.

The Renthal sprockets are much cheaper too. You can buy 2 or 3 for the price of a standard ducati one.

I bought a JT sprocket carrier which looks identical to the renthal one. It was about £45 and my renthal sprocket fitted perfect.
I'll try to find the link from the place I bought it from.

£47.55, same as I paid . Renthal rear sprocket was £36 . JT 14 tooth front was £19 . Chain was £106 I think . It cost £50 to have a local Ducati specialist to fit .

The JT carrier and a renthal sprocket with gold chain seems to be the way to go. Trouble is I can't source a 42 sprocket for a 525 chain. So, changing chain and sprockets to a 520 appears to be another solution with the added bonus of lower unsprung weight and (allegedly) a small increase in power. I'd be happy to be persuaded otherwise if there are any reasons why dropping to 520. I guess chain will wear quicker but I can live with that.

Yea, I'm glad you went with the separate carrier and sprocket option, it makes more sense and cheaper in the long run than the Supersprox one. I also found that JT also do steel sprockets to fit the Renthal or their own carrier which I don't think Renthal do, they only seem to do ally ones.

But saying that I've had 15k miles out of the ally Renthal sprocket and carrier with a 525 DID chain on my 748 and it looks like it could do another 15k no problem. So I still think that is the best option, I was told anecdotally once by one of my local bike garages that the ally rear sprocket is actually better than steel as it doesn't wear the chain as much.
