Fuel pump

I think the fuel pump is on its way out as it's now making a high pitched constant sound from in the metal tank so I've decided to put a new one in without investigating any further as I can't think of any other possible cause..

Whilst at it I think new internal hoses and a fuel filter would be worthwhile changing and on the list.

Looking at the diagrams of the fuel system there is a screen / bag type filter that goes on the end of the fuel pump, part number - 4250081A. I though this might be worth changing also but all the phones calls I've made and googling have come to nothing as it seems to be obsolete now.

So I was wondering if anyone knew of a source where I might be able to find one or somewhere who could supply an aftermarket one?

First thoughts are that the pump may have become dislodged, or maybe the clip has broken, making the pump drone on the tank?
The next thought is that one or both filters are partially blocked causing the pump to labour. You can do a check on the current draw to see if the pump is working too hard and that indicates a blocked filter.

I wouldn't think that the pump needs replacing as it appears to still be running and delivering fuel correctly as you have not reported running issues, just the noise.

The bottom filter is often called a "teabag" filter I think.
If you haven't already, call Moto Rapido, they will give you a definitive answer on availability and also give you a 10% discount if you insist you need a new pump.

Thanks for all the advice

In haste last night I've already bought a bosch pump and a mahle filter.
I spoke to Craig and he said the filter was unavailable now. I've bought the bag filter now on ebay, thanks Vince. I've been led to believe it would be worthwhile fitting new rubber hoses also inside as it's 16 years old.

With regards to a current draw check, what should I be looking for on the pump?

The article linked to below states that it will draw 5amps or 60watts.
There is also a graph further down showing how the amps rise.
