The four stoogies visit France!
MikeC, AlanC, Marty64 and myself decided to pop over to northern France last weekend. The plan was to visit some of the Somme battlefields, museums, places of interest. Also to drink beer, and relax.
Mike and myself travelled down on Thursday, staying overnight in Ashford so as to catch an early eurotunnel train plus meet up with the guys. https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...MSjlOr2QUZL4FR British and French customs where negotiated, then on to the train we went. Off on our adventure for a long weekend. We came back in Monday. Once the glitch in my sat nav was rectified, we headed to a national France memorial, Ablain St-Nazaire French Military Cemetery “Notre Dame de Lorette”, France. Stopping for a road site lunch en-route. https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...1jKz4jUPigkmE6 The area was the site of a major battle to control the region. Some of the trenches still remain as part of a museum. https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...7vtgu8roTbR8Ga https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...Ab3ONVgbiW3ZLO https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...6OWPCKYXU9nzNI The next stop was our hotel for the weekend. https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...jFY5qJC3HaIvsZ We based ourselves in the town of Peronne. By the time we unloaded the bikes and booked into the hotel, we where in need of food and drink. https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...tPyPZGaRs3LJEB https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...FVXmoPvItsOw6p After quite of few sherbet and a meal, we hit the sack. We woke up on Saturday to the local market in full swing. https://www.amazon.co.uk/photos/shar...w6zWa8GVEBq8Cg
