Hi All

Kent based newbie.

As part of a mid life crisis Im working my way through a bucket list of bikes for my late teens early 20s

I got a 1988 Africa twin going back together, a 1993 Fireblade getting a cosmetic restoration. My working bike is a MT01 - an old collection. Having lived in the middle east and Africa since 1999 my bike history has mainly been scramblers / enduros.

Next on the list is a M900 - if prefer year 1 models and projects as messing around with them is the main point as I do all the work myself if possible.

Having started looking into M900 bikes I came across this pic

The bike appears to have hexagon shaped forks - is this correct or just a shadow effect?

Very odd looking pic. My money is on it being some weird shadow effect.

Thanks very much for the welcome. I hope to meet up soon. In the mean time can someone point out the visual differance between the M900/S/SIE? All I can see is the rear caliper changes position but not even sure when this happened.

An early 900 will be carbed, ie is injection and Sie is injection with some extra bits inc the floating rear caliper you refer to. There are other differences between the models and even between the same models depending on year. (inc rear hoop suspension or not)

Just to throw something in to muddy the waters further I like the look of this one. Injected though (I know you said you wanted early so you can do your own work) but the 1000 is widely considered to be an outstanding engine. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301600515095
