What Chain???

Morning All

Well I think its time for a new chain and sprockets for my S4Rs.

What are the recommendations. D.I.D, Renthal, OEM or other brands?

I have always gone with D.I.D on my past Jap bikes so am favouring the 525 ZVMX chain from DID.

And just to confirm, its a 525 with 104 links. And 15 teeth at the front and 43 teeth at the back.

Cheers :-)

I went with your chain of choice (zvmx) in gold. Your sizes are correct regarding chain length and teeth. I used a jt front sprocket and a supersprox rear. ( seen them on demon tweeks site).

I always use Tzubaki from http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/, really helpful and always in stock with V fast delivery, don't forget you will need new sprockets as well.

Most recently I used AFAM chain and sprockets on my M1100evo. Prior to that I used Renthal sprockets and DID (I think) chain on my M1100 and Tzubaki and DID chains on my Kawasaki ZRXs. All of them worked well. The AFAM was at the suggestion of the guys at Pro Twins. From their experiences they preferred them to other makes.

I must say, the Afam front sprocket on my bike is very nicely made.
The boss on the retainer plate side is machined/forged to the same form as the retainer, not left big and round like some.
And the sprocket is well drilled for further lightness.
The weight difference between it and other brands I have handled is really rather staggering.

Another one for Afam Sprockets here, this time coupled with a DID VX2 chain which since fitting last year and having done about 5k and has only needed adjusting twice.

I bought mine from the lovely people at Bike Torque racing who I have used many times (way back before I had the Monster when they were solely GSX-R specialists). Never had a problem with them and they are more than happy to swap sprocket sizes as I did going up a couple of teeth on the rear.

A little more information from DID here:

+1 for DID chain. I have Renthal sprockets on the 748 and Talon on the Monster both good.

Do you need to replace the carrier on the monster when replacing the rear sprocket?

I think the standard carrier and sprocket is one piece. I have a separate Renthal carrier and sprocket on my 748 which allows you to change the sprocket without taking out the wheel, also you only need to replace the sprocket in future.

Oh yeah, I have Talon rear sprockets (which are beautifully made) for the little racer coupled with an R.K. chain, both work well but then it doesn't have a lot of horse power to pass on:

The front sprocket has to come from a specialist though as it is spaced off and has a thrower ring cut into it to try and control the oil getting past the seal:

I'm about to replace the chain & sprockets so looking for the latest recommendations.
I'm thinking Supersprox Stealth rear, 43.
The chain by DID X ring but should I get the Super Heavy duty, Heavy duty (thers's also a racing one?).
Lastly a light front 15, but isn't the 900ie a little odd with offsets - I read your earlier post Mr Gazza!

Any other recommendations, preferred suppliers?
Thanks!
JEZ
