Remapping in London

I recently replaced the standard mid-pipe on my 2006 S2R 800 with the Quat-D Cat eliminator pipe. The bike seems to be dragging a little under 5.5-6K rpm (but picks up again when I hit 5.5K). Everything else is stock (cans, air filter, ECU, etc).

Would I need to get it remapped?

If so where's a good place to have this done in London and how much should I expect to pay?

No the stock pipes didn't include an O2 sensor.

Then getting it remapped should be the best thing.
But I don't know where's the best for a dyno remapping in London, but you'll propbably need a power commander fitted to be able to get the best out of it. I got one through HM Racing in Orpington.

Does the stock ECU not have enough range built in? Ray at Rosso Corse says he can sort it out using the stock ECU but if I'm going to have to go down the PC route in the end then I may as well avoid the effort and money involved with getting it remapped on the stock ECU!

Will it damage the engine to run it the way it is?

the stock ECU has a trim function that affects the complete range, adjustments can improve fuelling but cannot be considered re-mapping, for that you would need a Power Commander that will allow the mixture to be independantly adjusted at points througout the range.

If Ray can sort it out, then go that route, you could allways request a refund if he cant.

Good luck on trying to get a refund

The simple answer is that a bit of tweaking is no replacement for a fully mapable Ducati Performace ECU and a power comander to release all the potential of the engine. That's what I did, it's just expensive, but I found it really worth it.

Just dropped it off at Rosso Corse. Ray echoes your view in that a new ECU (and cans) would be ideal but reckons he can play around with the current ECU and brings things half way. The plan is to eventually get new cans and go the whole hog...step by step!

If/when you do go the whole hog you won't need a new ECU, just a Power Commander. The PC will override the exisitng ECU and get the fuelling right. It's well worth it. Keep your eye on ebay for cans. I paid £300 for my carbon Termis, almost new. The cans from an S4R will also fit.

... and you can pick up used PC3's for about £150. You can use the one from a 620 and 800 Monster too. Then its a Dyno setup at about £150, or you can use my map if you want. It should be fairly close but there's no substitute for a map properly set up for your engine.

Yes sorry, you're right Gilps, obviously.
No new ECU needed, I forgot you don't have an O2 filter, mine did and you have to have a new ECU in that case.

Yep, that's the nice thing about the early S2R's, keeps it fairly simple.

Thanks for all the info guys! Being new to the world of monsters it's a bit of a steep learning curve at the moment but I'll get there bit by bit and as J.P. says - pound by pound (i.e. it's going to be slow going as a newly wed!)
