Wanted M600 1997 Marzocchi forks in decent condition

Mine are pitted and need either new stanchions or rechroming - before I embark on dismantling, removing the stanchion from the bottom casting etc is there anyone with a decent set to save me the cost and hassle? Located in Bristol area but happy to travel to get the right set

Cheers

Jim

If you decide to go down the re-chroming route I can recommend these people
http://dynasurf.co.uk/motorcycle-forks/
They did my 3 1/2 Morini fork legs which were heavily pitted for £155 (the pair) in exactly the time they said they would, quality job, what more can you ask?

Great, thanks for the recommendation, always good to know of a good experience. I'll keep this in reserve.

I tried Dynasurf, they were not able to get the forks apart (the early ones seem to be bonded in). So I'm looking for alternatives - does anyone know of any forks from other bikes which will fit? It seems that later Monsters have forks with a different calliper bolt spacing (mine are 40mm, the later ones seem to be 65mm). I think some early SS forks may fit. Or am I better getting the newer forks and a new calliper (e.g off 2000 onwards 600/620/750/900 etc)? has anyone else replaced early (1997 or earlier) forks with something else?
Thanks for any and all help in getting this bike back on the road!

They are not trying hard enough.

Early SS forks should fit and have 40mm spacing. 900SS are adjustable too. I think they changed the Monsters to 65mm type around 2000 SS maybe before then, but you can easily see the differences.

Axle sizes increased to 25mm too on the 65mm type so you'll need one of those and to adapt your wheels to fit the new axle. You'll also need a new mudguard for the 65mm ones as they changed the mounting holes.

It's all possible if you have all the right parts.

I’ve a set of forks which I think might suit I got them from someone on here a good while ago they are in great Nick but I can’t confirm exactly what they are off. If some one could post the pics for me maybe we can get a definite which bike the are off. they won’t be expensive as I’ve no use for them now.

Found some photos on eBay of the correct forks (these ones are rusty though so hence no good for me....) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175023103080

Mine have a small threaded hole on the inside of the castings but there is nothing in it so it would not matter if yours had that or not.

Measurements from my forks -
Overall length from top of fork to bottom of fork leg 755mm
Length of outer casing 440mm
Exposed length of stanchion 138mm
Length of casting 170mm
Brake calliper mounting hole pitch 40mm
Mudguard mounting hole pitch 40mm
Stanchion diameter 40mm
Outer casing diameter at top 50mm (upper mounting yoke)
Outer casing diameter 240mm down from the top 54mm (lower mounting yoke)
Outer casing diameter at the bottom 56.5mm
Axle hole diameter 25mm with a 30mm recess 3mm deep on the left leg (the one with the brake calliper mountings)
If it turns out you have a twin brake setup that would be OK as well of course, I'll just use one!

It’s saying you private message inbox is full - If you could send over some photos that would be great, particularly the chrome as that’s the problem on my current ones. I’m happy to replace the seals if needed. Email is james@publow.net phone/WhatsApp 07900 574850

Do you have a price in mind?

Cheers

James

I believe the SS forks do fit in the triple clamps but are slightly longer than monster forks.
A Showa set from an early monster 900 would be the best option, Showa forks are better at controlled damping than the early marzocchi forks. If you find replacement forks with the 65mm brake calliper spacing, swap the callipers as well, plenty around second hand with the 65mm spacing and you will sell your 40mm ones on easily!

Forks look serviceable, no pitting that I can see.

Thanks Darren. Interesting as they are adjustable. I now have a set of originals from Davy which are in good nick but will investigate the adjustables too
