Filter removal tool

I have bought a HiFlo filter for my M1200s as I already have a fitting tool. Unfortunately I have drained the oil and cannot remove the old filter as it has only 8 or 10 flutes and my tool has 14. I have searched online for a tool but cannot find one, can anyone help?
I have a clamping type remover but that cannot be used as there is not enough clearance around the filter.

Enough space to get a turn of push bike chain on it?

Punch an old screwdriver through both sides and it should undo fine.

That's the option I was trying to avoid but it looks like the only way unless I buy a proper tool which will only get used once.

Would oil filter pliers work? I have a pair in Pensford which is not too far from Clevedon. They worked ok on my 600 Monster but no idea how the access looks on yours

Thanks mate but they wont fit as the filter sits in an alcove created by the sump so there is only around 1/4" clearance.

Some EBay sellers offer filter and wrench sets...perhaps a cheaper way of extending your wrench collection?

Well I got it done but what a job. I couldn't get a big screwdriver to fit in around the exhaust, sump and oil cooler so I had to use two screw drivers punched into the bottom (End) of the filter and use a lever to twist the filter off but it was in so tight I ended up using a 2ft tommy bar to prise the old filter off, must have been fitted by a bloody gorilla. The last filter was fitted by a "trained by Ducati Gorilla" so I wont be using their services again. New HiFlo fitted and torqued up to 11 nm. Thanks for all your contributions.

It was always recommended that a smear of lubricant was applied to the seal before fitting, presumably your gorilla hadn’t bothered....

One thing that's worth checking - sometimes, especially if the filter is stubborn to remove, the rubber sealing washer can become stuck to the crankcase rather than coming off with the filter.

I always bought the k&n oil filter with the hex nut fitted to it for ease of fitting and removal

I used to buy the k&n (which i'm lead to believe are made by Hiflo) with the hex nut but Hi Flo themselves now do a filter with a hex nut which i believe has RC after the part number

It wont be a problem in the future as I always use HiFlo filters and have a proper tool to fit/remove them.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this one.
One way of removing them is to drill two holes a couple of inches apart at one end of a length of flat bar and put some self tappers through and screw into the filter.

Hope this makes sense.
