2 years major service
Hi all,
I have a monster 696 abs 2013 due for major service. it have 7000 miles on the clock. Called Metropolis today and they quote me £800-900 for cam belt change + servicing. It shocked me that the service price is nearly 20% of the bike value!! Is that a normally price? I live in North London Kilburn, any recommendation? Thanks |

Does that include the desmo valve clearance check, that's due around 7-7500 miles? Otherwise, I got a full service and belt change for about £350 if I remember correctly. Personally, nowadays I think I'd try Baines Racing in Silverstone, bit awkward for leaving the bike there though although you can get a train from Banbury.

Not suggesting you come up to Glasgow! However gives you an idea of what you should be paying, appreciate labour may be higher where you are, but not that much. |

Give them the widest berth possible, plenty of other good Ducati workshops around.

its only around £400-500 for a Desmoquattro full service including belts so a 2v should be around half (in labour hours) 4v belts are more expensive as well so 800-900 sounds way too much to me.

Well, in theory yes but in reality some new 2v belts are more expensive than the old 4V (996 etc.) also accessibility has diminished, so there's more to take off (and refit) out of curiosity what people get done at "full service" ? Please list. I appreciate this is not fully OT but might help the OP make a more informed decision..

The service schedule I had for the big service on Edna with belt change this year:- Reading of error memory, checking for technical updates/recalls, oil and oil filter change, engine oil pressure check, valve clearances, change timing belts, check/clean/replace spark plugs, change air filter, change brake and clutch fluid, check and adjust brake and clutch controls, check and lubricate throttle/cold start, check brake pad and disc wear, check stearing head bearings and wheel hubs, check rear wheel flexible coupling, check tightening of the safety components, check and lubricate rear wheel shaft, check final drive tension and lubrication, check final drive wear (chain etc), Visual check of front forks and rear shock seals, check movement on side stand, check rubbing points, clearance of movement on hoses and electrical wiring, check external fuel lines, lubricate and grease, tyre presure/wear checks, check battery charge level, check throttle body synch and idling, check operation of safety devices (e.g. sidestand sensor), check indicators and lighting, Reset service indicator, road test of the bike, cleaning the bike, fill in service log. |

You can normally find a list of what gets done in the back of the service manual can't you ?
Metropolis are atrocious but the bike will still be within warranty I'm guessing and it's reassuring to have it done by a mail dealership at that point. After that, get well away from them and never return for servicing. They charge £90 an hour for labour, Rosso Corse are about £72, inclusive of VAT.

Pro Twins (who are a Ducati main dealer) charge £66 per hour for labour (including VAT).
As far as I am aware there is no necessity to have services that are during the warranty period done by a main dealer. As long as whoever does the service can show that they have done the correct work and used the correct parts. It would only ever come into play if you made a warranty claim on something that was directly related to something that was covered by the service. That is unlikely as those are bits that are checked and/or adjusted and/or replaced. |
