The combination of high carb, mounted over a hot engine ( so fuel evaporates emptying the float chambers)and a pump operated by cranking the engine ,sound like a good plan for high starter motor /battery wear. Is this a problem on carb models ?
I usually stay away from anything I can't fix, fuel injection being one such thing, but in this instance is injection the better option ?

Don't discount bike delivery. I have never used them but I beleive a few on here have used companies such as BSD to deliver bikes. I've no idea of the cost but it may open up loads more options...

For example, http://www.wemovebikesandquads.co.uk/ states Scotland "from £140"

Now then... I have a nice S2R 1000 in the for sale section

I am down here in Norfolk. When I was searching for my Monster earlier this year, all the good'uns seemed to be in Aberdeenshire or Northern Ireland.
I actually priced up a plane ticket to go and see the Aberdeen one (Kinloss I think it was), but it just put too much on the price and there was the adventure of riding an unknown bike home about 500 miles or so..!!

Eventually the wait ended and I found what I was looking for in Trowbridge...Still 200 miles from my door, and it was a non runner too, so no chance of riding it home.
It cost me £200 to get it home in a borrowed Transit and it was a long days drive.

Bearing that in mind it could make those bike hauliers seem like quite good value.?

It's not quite the same as being able to see what you are buying in the flesh, but these days it is so easy to send endless photos from all angles, and there are all sorts of ways to avoid being stiched up...Like buying from a known member on here for instance..

You can hire a Transit size van for around £35 a day, plus fuel

Yes Gazza,
I bought the Buell I had, from London area ,and had a courier deliver it,can't remember how much . I bought that from a U.K.BEG member, they had a good network of decent folk ,one member lent me his spare rear shock ,until my new one arrived.
The Guzzi I currently have was bought on Ebay, found the chap selling it had owned it for 17 years and was a Guzzi club member, his word was good enough for me,I rode that home from Wigan 400 miles. It hasn't missed a beat in the last 3 years I've owned it,it's in bits at the moment though( really in bits) the clutch was slipping at wide open throttle . I have attached a pic of the oil inside the clutch bellhousing. Guzzis really are a car engine in a bike frame. And one of the fanny- ing about just to get the damn gearbox out.
Ill bet clutch changes on monsters are easier .

Looking good in the lounge Pete/Elli, you must both be as chuffed as a dog with 2 dongles.
Hopefully we will meet up sometime this year
