Not so newbie in Glasgow

Hi folks, not logged on here for years but I used to read the forum regularly when I had my Monster 600. Now looking to get another as the CB500F I've got is a great all rounder but doesn't pull the heart strings like a Ducati.

Looking at a 2011 M796 but the history since 2016 when the belts were last done at 3360 miles is non-existent and the dash was changed at a reported 7300 miles in 2017. Unclear why. Reported MOT mileage is accordingly confusing. Of course I'd get the belts changed and valves checked now but even at a good price do you reckon this is one to avoid? Thanks!

HPI check to see if it’s been a CatC write off?

Aye, looks good in the flesh too! Did notice the grips weren't matching.

Wink

It’s been up for sale for probably a year, mileage is around 12k and it’s last belts were at 3 odd k…3ish years ago…have the valves ever been looked at? Hmmmmmmmm.

Needs an expensive service with belts and valves before anything else…like you say.

Different grips plus the dash makes me wary. Bike owners usually like to keep them immaculate.

There’s plenty nice ones out there. I’d probably bail unless you take an expert with you to look it over.

Congratulations! A 796? Is that the same one as in your original post?

Whatever, have fun.

Aye, 796. Abandoned the one I was looking at, fortunately a few are available around the country and got this one transported up. Spent more than intended but this is a good one. 350 wet miles this weekend. Discovered the tractor like nature and may consider the 14T sprocket, you need to be going pretty quick to make 6th comfortable.

You're not alone! Have a look at post #6 onwards here http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...d.php?p=567865

As well as lowering the gearing, there are lots of other options to try including a reflash by Neil at Cornerspeed. Have a look here for more information: http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/s...ad.php?t=54450
