This is awful news. Met Paul at the PS Sport Classic launch at CMW Chichester, he must have spent 45 minutes just chatting to my mate and I, then met him again at WDW and was amazed he remembered me from the bike launch. One of the absolute nicest guys I’ve met…

RIP

Sad news indeed.I still have the Paul Smart autographed baseball cap that I won in a raffle at a UKmonster club track day at Mallory Park quite a few years ago.

Lovely guy and a great racer for sure.

Just picked this up. A very sad piece of news. I met him at the launch of the Sport Classics at the NMS in 2005, then at Mallory in 2011 where he signed the seat hump for me, then again at WDW in 2018.

A lovely, unassuming chap. He will be sadly missed at future events.

I never did meet Barry Sheene. Now I shall never meet Paul Smart. They were both mates of Capo's.
I still have a picture of his Imola bike on my workshop wall. He and that 750 were a legend together.

Paul’s wife Maggie is Barry’s sister, condolences to her and their kids.

So so sad, he was often at the Classic races either doing a parade or just mingling and chatting to anyone who said hello.
Last time I saw him to say hello to he was in front of me in the queue to pick our (respective) cars up from Gatwick Airport parking.
Complete legend and one of the nicest chaps not only in racing but on the Planet.

Sad news.
I watched Paul race many times, particularly during his early career.
I can still picture him coming round the bend just before the Cadwell mountain on his 350 yamaha ahead of a certain Giacomo Agostini, much to the appreciation of the crowd on the banking.
He went on to win that race, if memory serves.
