Tank grips for '05 S4RS?

Hi all,

I'm doing some protective film wrapping for my S4RS and it unfortunately means the current tank grips have to go as I won't be able to re-apply them (most likely). Does anyone know where I can get a new pair of tank grips of good quality? Most companies have stopped making them as I understand? Any recommendations?

If it's paint protection you're after, rather than something grippy for your knees, I can recommend Ventureshield. Really tough, virtually invisible and doesn't peel or discolour over time.

Steve at Chipguard can still supply either three piece tank sets or full protection for the S2R/S4R.

Interesting, have you tried these? I was thinking more race techy stuff like EazyGrips or R&G (which I really don't like the quality of in their recent products)

Thank you. I've found a local vinyl wrapping company who will do the tank in 3 piece and there will be no area unwrapped, so going with them, will report on how they do in Jan

I haven't tried, nor even seen any of those tapes, so proceed with caution. They could be too abrasive or have far too strong an adhesive for your application? I thought it was worth a punt though.
I was actually trying to Google non-slip stickers for boat decks, as I am sure there is a product for that, but Google insisted in showing me decking things. It might be worth asking in a boat chandler if there is one near you?

Aren’t Tank Grips just a bit horrible (spoiling the lovely finish and interrupting the lines of the tank) and unnecessary (how much hanging off do you do?) on a road bike?

I'm with Flip on this one.

The clear thin film ones are good, but the lumpy ones just look like somebody cut up an old shower mat and stuck it to their tank.

I can't ride without tank grips these days, I use my knees to hold on to the bike all the time and control my body position this way. Some of my biker friends ride without the grips and do it well, so to each their own I think.

Looks wise, I think nothing beats the look of a very well used machine, very well looked after too, so it's subjective too Having said that, I'm all against side or tail panniers as they do ruin the looks a bit too much for me

Ordered TechSpec ones from eBay, says they are original, brand new and re-sealable... TechSpec have good reputation among track crowd (or so I am told...), so hopefully the grip will be good enough for me on the streets.
