Carbon Fibre Tea Tray

I have a carbon fibre "tea tray" made by Ducati Performance for sale. It is in perfect condition, and rare to find.

Price £45, postage signed & insured via Royal Mail costs additional £8.50

I will put it here so that members can have first chance to purchase, but after a few days it will go to ebay. Please send me a PM if its something you want to buy.

I think this will fit models from around 2000 onwards when they changed the shape a little after the TPG takeover to the type that had the indicator mounts moulded into the tea tray unlike the earlier less curvy trays as on my 1997 Monster.

You could well be right. I would suggest that anyone interested checks the compatabilty/fitting with a Ducati dealer as the product number #09141 / Ducati Performance will confirm.

The tea tray bolts down to the frame and rear Mudguard using the holes, studs or captive nuts moulded into the underside of the tea tray.

‘93 to ‘99 ish Monsters had the rectangular tray with 4 bolt fixing.

‘00 and ‘01 ish Monsters had the curvy tray with indicator mounts and 3 stud fixing.

‘02 ish onwards Monsters also had the curvy tray with indicator mounts, but had 4 fixing studs.

The label says 2000 onwards, so the five captive nuts probably fit the three stud and later four stud fixings. It shouldn’t be too hard to confirm.

This is an odd one.
I have one of those tea trays in Carbon (origin unknown). I have a three bolt fixing, but the triangle of three is reversed to Jez's one, with the single bolt at the very rear and then the pair... But this tray has 5 bolts anyway, so what it fits I couldn't say.

I did find with mine, that the bonded (brass) inserts were a pain in the empennage.
Not only was it royally difficult to find the inserts with the screws, but if the screw was only a little too long it would screw the insert off the tail, easily done, as it pulled down onto rubber... I found it all rather unsatisfactory, although I should qualify that by explaining that I think a PO had tried to repair this in the past.
Jez's looks rather nice and new.

In the end I chopped the inserts and their bonding right off flush. I then made up a skeletal plate from 1.5mm ally sheet and drilled three holes aligning with the frame holes.
Aluminium bolts (Countersunk I think) were then threaded into the holes and ally nuts tightened on. The nuts fit nicely into the dished area round the frame holes.

This assembly was then fixed onto the frame with further ally nuts. Then the bare tray was placed very carefully onto a little filler applied to the new ally plate.
Once cured, I removed the bottom nuts and carefully lifted the whole thing off.
Next I bonded over the plate to the tray with epoxy and woven glass tape.. It's been firm and very easy to remove and re-fit ever since.

Just sayin' as this could be a solution for someone wanting to fit this very nice tea tray to their bike regardless of bolt hole configuration..

If it helps, according to Stein-Dinse, part no. 09141 became 96904200B and my old Ducati Performance catalogue says that is for model years up to 2001. Part no. 96922100B is for 2002 on.

The one I had on my S2R 1000 was 96922100B.

A little late, but I can tell you that its a 3 bolt fixing.
The lower pair of the five is a separate fixing for the number plate light, which attaches via a right-angled bracket. I think these are M5, while the other, main fixing points are M6.
Its the same as is fitted to my yr 2000 M750.

I already have a carbon one and I fitted stainless studs into the threaded sockets.
It was a while ago but I probably used high strength loctite.
Then stainless nylock nuts on the studs.
The studs make removal and refitting easier too.

The carbon trays look nice but, as is often the case with carbon trim, they're a little on the flimsy side.
The result is that, when fitted with the std indicators (and nothing else matches the curves properly) the indicators bounce around a bit as the thin carbon isn't stiff enough to support their weight.
I'm going to beef mine up with some extra laminations (probably of twill weave glassfibre rather than carbon, though using epoxy resin) on the reverse side.
....... when I get around to it.

£45 is a friendly price, in my opinion.
