S4R rectifier

Sorry I’m asking so many questions

Next year I’m looking to start riding abroad, so I’m upgrading known fauls, to reduce as much as possible the chances of break downs..
I’ve noticed my bike still has the original rectifier, I’ve done a search and seen that people change to a mosfet type?

Contacted a few dealers who couldn’t help? But one did refer me to electrex world, just wondering has anyone done this who could link me to an exact model as there seems to be quite a few different ones.

My 07 S2R also has it's original reg/rec, would I change a working item just because I'm going to Europe, nope.
Check the connections, resistance and the outputs and just maybe find one of the kits that move them from under the seat to under the rear mudguard for better cooling.
Yes I've had a reg/rec go pop in France (888) oh joy, but that's part of the adventure.
Don't forget to replace the gear change return spring as well, they break for a pastime.

I fitted a regulator from Electrex and it ended up in flames (literally!)

Then went down the "Kato" route - search "fried regulator" on here for a full and detailed description as to what you need to do.

I made the change a few years ago now and I've had no issues since. I also relocated the reg to the underside of the seat, probably a bit of overkill as the new MOFSET unit barely generates an heat.

I changed mine too after the original boiled my battery. I'm sorry I don't remember all the details exactly, but I bought one from Yamaha (I think) because the availability of the cables... All the info was in Kato's brilliant thread.

Never had any heat problems or other issues since changing and well worthwhile effort. I definitely like the idea of less fire risk!

+1 for the 'Kato route'
I changed mine a couple of years ago, no major problems just a bit tricky mounting it as the new one is a little bit bulkier, ended up cutting a couple of fins off the new one & fabricating a new mounting plate.

Electrex Reg /REC for ducati is not MOSFET you need a Schinengren FH012 or FH020 same as Yamaha R1 and many other bikes a nd the correct connectors ,,

That being said.... I even LIVE abroad and have had no problems with my 2007 model with 186,000 km. Just make sure the connectors are always good - change the blade connectors to bullet type.

I do agree with you mate to a certain extent , 2 of my Monsters with the RR in the front air flow are original items one is 19 years the other is 28 year old , the connectors are the weak point but i check them regularly , but on The S4 with RR behind engine its a different story 3 standard or Electrex RR in 10 years now have a Shindengren MOSFET from an R1 mountrd on side of bike in frontal airflow ,, runs cooler ,, no crap connectors either bullets or soldering ,

The RR51 is an old Honda design spec from the 1980s it was bad in Honda VFR 750s ,800s and many other bikes ,, its notorious in the trade ,,,,Ducati have used it since about 1984 its old tech the connectors are a weak point but the shunt type regulator cant handle a lot of heat or voltage and amp spikes ..
