Question Rusty Springs?

On Saturday I replaced my clutch cover for an open one, this morning I have noticed that the springs have got an orange rust-like coating.

Is this normal and should I replace them for something else?

Speak to Craig or Luke at Motorapido, I fitted a set (inc. S-S bolts) when I put my DP clutch pressure plate and open cover on, think they were about £26 or thereabouts.

i find that when i wash mine, you get rusty water coming out of the clutch,
Albie suggested a shower cap over it for when its being washed? :-)
I have stainless springs and black caps on mine, and find it looks alot nicer.

Or paint them? I did mine with black smootrite 2 years ago - still look fine and rust free

Some aftermarket stainless springs are thicker wire and make clutch heavy

When I bought my bike new and went for an open cover, the dealer said I'd need to swap out the springs for ones that wouldn't rust - so it's the same on current bikes too.

The replacement springs were £40, iirc.

Sounds a bit steep Snips, I thought I got springs, caps and screws in the high 20's from a Ducati dealer. I remember at the time time thinking "that's cheap"

Not sure if they fit monster as well?

Paid about £25 for my own springs, caps and bolts. You need good caps and bolts - standard issue are crap and will rust pretty fast.

Thanks guys.

I did get some replacement caps when I got the cover I just didn't think about the springs

Would aftermarket spring heaviness counteract the lightness of the aftermarket slave and give you the same heaviness of clutch as a standard set up?

No point getting her a shower cap though as the chances of me cleaning her aren't high just yet and I ride in the rain anyway so that would just look weird

The springs I fitted were no heavier than standard. They were supplied by Motorapido so I would assume they were designed to be as standard.

The caps came with my pressure plate; the S-S springs and bolts were about £26 I think, its not worth bothering painting or cleaning up for that price and they still look as new 4 months later.
