A few 796 mods

So I've had the monster 796 a couple of months so far and am really enjoying it . There were a few little jobs that I wanted to do to it to make it mine .

I fitted a R&G tail tidy which really smartens up the rear end . It was a real pain in the arse to do !.

The bike came with termis fitted but no baffles so I ordered a pair of legal look 3 baffles from desmoworld . Beautifully made and they take the edge off the noise .

I got some lamba sensor eliminators from ebay to smooth out the low speed running and they seem to have made a small difference .

Also raised the bars a tad with a cnc racing 20mm bar riser, simple enough job to do and made a real difference .

Fitted some bar end mirrors and flipped over the original mirror clamps .

The seat cowl was held on with horrod huge allen bolts so ordered a pair of original replacements from Ducati . Great service and they arrived in 3 days . The downside is they are £26!!!.

I'm riding from Kent to Scotland next month for a weeks riding with mates so when a Ducati performance comfort seat came up I had to grab it . It does feel plusher and is slightly higher (I'm a shortie).

The bike came on the original five year old pointy pirelli front tyre and a maxxis square touring tyre on the back! .
I fitted this week a pair of Pirelli angel st's as I've had a few pairs of these and are a decent tyre .
Only done 30 miles on the new tyres and the bike feels so different now . It actual wants to lean over and corner!
I've done about 800 miles so far and plan on putting on a few thousand more this year!.
Thanks
Colin

Some nice mods there, Colin.

I've got similar Desmoworld baffles in my Evo Termis; they are beautifully machined, aren't they and an absolutely perfect fit too.

Did you know that Desmoworld also do nice billet aluminium fasteners for the seat hump and cheaper than standard too at €20? I've got silver ones on my Evo.

You do realise that this is just the start of the modifications, don't you? I sense some carbon fibre coming up!

Enjoy!

I didn't really plan on doing any mods as the monster is a second bike really. Although a carbon tank strap and front carbon section is appealing.

48mm if you want to leave them in . They were bloody tight to fit. Or you can get them in 47.75mm I think.

rexxer remap transformed the low down throttle response on my 796. next up is a re-working of the forks. remap by hammer and tongs . i was so unhappy with the bike , i was thinking of selling. terrible throttle response and about town control. i bought it with factory fitted termis and ecu and filter as well. 2010 model with 4500 miles. at low speeds it would lurch at every power stroke, flat spots going into corners, poor throttle response in general. a friends recommendation led me to look into a re-map and the tuning guy sam west recommended a rexxer remap rather than a power commander. next to maxton for fork re-work if lotto comes up!

Some more piccies please, Colin!

But not via Photobucket I think . Try www.postimages.org if you haven't already moved over.

Yup, already on postimage .

Heat shields & rear wheel nuts .

Mirrors .

Inspection cover & front wheel nut .

Front mudguard stripe, it's vinyl but sort of continues the dark stipe through the bike .

Fender extender.

seat cowl stripe.

Carbon tank stripe & front panel.

Think it needs a black petrol cap, but can't justify the price at the moment. DP or CNC ?

Very tasteful. The mudguard stripe is a nice touch and the fender-extender a useful and subtle addition.

If you want to see what the DP filler looks like, there's a picture of mine here:

You'll probably pay a premium over a similar CNC part but I liked the look of it. Having said that, I think CNC do a lockable option, which might be important to you.

Carry on spending!
