I did about 40 miles on it today - did I mention the seller had it MOT'd and the belts changed last week!
But I did put the standard cans back on it first.

It does 'go' very well, but I almost needed help getting off it afterwards.
The clip-ons are angled down at a really silly rake, it feels like @45deg but is probably only @30deg.

I'll have to put some different less downward angled ones on.

No matter how much I look at it I can't like that fairing or seat unit.

And that big pad needs to come off the back of the tank.
It just peels off, but reveals a big metal 'nipple' welded to the tank which is just for position. I'm hoping I can grind it off, get a small patch of paint on it for protection and then use a more conventional tank protector to cover the blemish.

i'm not sure how it got an MOT, because neither the Indicator or High beam warning lights on the dash work.
Unfortunately they are PCB mounted LEDs, not bulbs, so I'll need to investigate that.

I didn't have any other issues, but whilst I'm doing the bodywork conversion I'll be sending the ECU off to have the Immobiliser deactivated, which means I could use some more conventional clocks instead, possibly reverting back to a mechanical speedo at the same time.

Oh and Gazza, don't worry about the headlight, that's all part of the plan.

I used to commute on my '92 750SS and it put in some impressive journey times, but it was a crippler at anything below 30mph and had to be doing over 50 to be anything approaching comfortable. One good thing about it though.. It led to me buying my first Monster.. .. and a world of pleasure.
I did throw my leg over the new one but just said Nah! I drained the tank, took the battery off and covered it up to save my eyes. I haven't even thumbed the starter button.

Nice to see that you have white faced clocks and adjustable Showas. I have grey faced and non adjustable.

Glad you're planning to address the square headlamp, I'm interested to see what you do.
I think you will be putting the Super into Super Sport..

Those rubber pads on the tank are awful aren't they? I'm wondering if a carbie SS tank could be converted to work with ie and it would complement the old style bodywork much better than the new style one?

The trouble with a Carbie tank is they are really expensive now, and would need the bottom cut out and converted for the injection pump.
They go for @£400 with no rust holes.

I'm considering an alloy tank under a carbie shaped fiberglass cover, but it would be a lot of work.

I have a tank to take the mould off, but wouldn't dream of cutting it up.

Thanks Jerry, I agree with the first bit, but won't be burning the bodywork.

This is a completely standard bike in every way, and despite being unloved at the moment there were very few of them brought into the country.
I'm imposing a strict no cutting or welding of the unique standard components on this one, and will only be modifying the more readily available parts I'm putting on it, and all the standard parts will be stored.

Back in the late 80's I brought a then very unloved Z1000H for next to nothing, the pre-Gpz injected one of which only @200 were imported. I mono-shocked it, big bored the engine, put GSXR upside down forks in it, and generally cut it up and modified nearly every bit of it.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, but when I sold it just a few years ago it was worth £5k instead of £15K.

There were less of the 1000SSie imported, as far as I can tell under 100 units, and I won't be selling it for a while.

Considering it was in the 2003 range alongside the 749, 999, ST, Multistrada and Monster ranges. And was well down on power compared to other makes similar bikes, I'm surprised anyone brought one. Only the die-hard Brand Loyal 2V Aircooled fans would have considered it, esopecially looking like it does.
