Cam belts
Hi guys,
I bought a 2009 Monster with only 307 miles on the clock last year. I've had the oil and fluids changed. It's now done 1400 miles (I know - need to ride more). Can you tell me whether the cam belts need replacing after 2 years or does it now go on mileage. I'm going to get the belts adjusted at my local dealer but wasn't sure if replacement was on the cards. One other question if I may. At the 500 mile service, do Ducati reset the fuelling having run it rich for the running in period. My bike seems to run a little rich, popping and banging at low revs and a bit tricky to pull away. Many thanks, Sharon. |

Strictly speaking the belts should be changed every 2 years (regardless of mileage). Personally I'm happy to push that to 3 years..........if your belts haven't been changed for 6 that's pushing it a bit too far I would get them changed ASAP - if your dealer is going to be adjusting the old ones it won't be that much more to fit new.
I would also be slightly concerned if the dealer had not already recommended changing the belts if they are already 6 years old. |
