Speedo cable
It's snapped off near the hub..... Not having had time to look, and not being home, and needing to get in to a mot asap.....is bolt on to the back of the speedo?

MOT does not include anything related to the speedo (apart from it being marked with mph), just a record of the odometer reading as seen.

Correct, my old dirt bike had no speedo and passed MOTs with no problems.
Don't sweat it, fix at your leisure. I did get a tiny GPS speedo with data logging, designed for cycles and walking.

Yep .. can't see how they could easily test a speedo anyway.
Was your speedo needle bouncing around before the cable snapped ? This used to be the general scenario in the old days, as the cable lube dried up and the inner cable started to bind in the outer. Eventually they would seize and then snap. Cable attaches to the speedo via a knurled nut that you have to undo with your fingers .. or carefully with pliers or grips, padded with rag. |

Yep, that was what made me think it wasn't part of the test. Of course if it wasn't working at all they could spot that during the brake test. As long as it's not the type of scenario where if it's attached it has to work it should be ok.

It would make no difference, they would simply record the same odometer reading and pass it without a problem.
