Which Monster?
Hi, I joined the forum as I've always been a Ducati fan especially the monster and am looking to buy one, not a new one. Anyway I was just wondered which monster in general is considered the best? Comments?

Slob, recently sold my TDM850, use to do a bit of touring on it now mostly rides to local bikes nights but would still do the odd weekend away. cheers |

I heard a lot of people say the 1100Evo is superb. If I had money to burn I would possibly swap my standard M1100 for one. Aircooled for me.

If I could have any monster, I'd have another M600
But for touring and/or living in the countryside you might want a bigger lump. |

Yep, Probably S2R1000 or an 1100 (regular, S or evo), get down to a dealer that has one for sale a bag a test ride.

If you want the classic look IMHO the older bikes are great. I was seriously considering an M900, but I wasn't sure I could live with the potential foibles of an old carbed bike (sorry Flip! - his is luvvvverly)
I would add a definite +1 for S2R 1000 ownership, as recommended by Slob. There aren't too many about but the single sided swingarm looks fantastic to my eye. An added bonus is it is possible to work these relatively easily yourself. I would ride a few, check out service, insurance and and parts costs. In contrast there seem to be lots of 800's about, they have weaker front brakes, non adjustable forks and a little less less oomph. I can't comment on the modern bikes apart from I find them a bit Standing by for Pegboy had a very nice S2R 1000 for sale click me |

Carbie 900's are getting long in the tooth now but personally I love them (I have a 93 900).
Either an M1000 or S2R 1000 would be a great choice, the DS motor is great

I picked up an 1100 evo last year that someone had spent over £2k on and done 1,500 miles. I've been riding 42 yrs so have owned and ridden a lot of bikes! The evo is highly recommended. Last of the air cooled Monsters and an excellent mix of old school with modern aids such as traction control and ABS. Great on the back roads of Derbyshire but also a comfortable 80mph cruiser. Seems well built too.

Sad but true. I love my evo - bought after my 848 got nicked - and there's nothing else out there I'd rather have. I don't like / understand the direction Ducati are going in, slowly but surely removing all the 'Ducatiness' from their bikes.
My wife's had a 696 for four or five years and I've had the evo for three. Both brill 👍 |

There doesn't seem to be great enthusiasm for the 821 which is what I am considering. Does anyone know how good they are at longer distances and tank range. Had an ST 3 Ducati and have always regretted selling it so eager to get back to the V twin ways.

I've ridden 1200, 1200s and 821 dark.
All great... my personal choice would be a 1200s but then I spend quite a lot of time doing distance riding with a pillion. Both excellent bikes but very different in character to the 2v motors. Thanks Slob. I have come to the conclusion I hate all screens - they either buffet you or they cosset you too much (R1200RT). So going for a naked, I was just wondering how good they are riding all day? I know they are superb for a short Sunday morning blast.
