My 600ss has a 120/70 front and a 160/60 rear. Steers wonderful.

At the end of the day if it fits, suits your style of riding and doesn't spit you off on the first corner then it's a good size combination.

Yes Duke the 748, even with the slightly sneered at Showa race shocks, handles amazingly well. Feels just as planted at twice the national limit

You've got me wanting to try a 748, but I straddled a 916 once and I definitely have the wrong sized arms, legs and testicles!

Great news with the tyre, I discovered that Pirelli do the Angel ST in 160/60 size and they are discounted at the moment. Happy days.

Out of pure curiosity this afternoon, I measured the heights of my new 120/70 and an old 120/60 on the SS, both on rims.
Measuring from the edge of the rim to a straight edge across the top of the tyre, the difference is indeed 12mm (near as dammit). I was slightly surprised even though the maths says that would be the case.

I've put a 170 on the back of the Monster this time, having only fitted 180s previously. I must say it does look right and I'm very much looking forward to trying the new pair out.

Having taken on board the comments on this thread, I might well even put a 120/70 on the front of the 750SS when I commission it for riding. According to the glyphs on the sidewalls of the current pair, they originate in the Mesolithic period!

I think 120/70 is the way to go. I think I had a 120/60 front on my 748 and it felt like the front was tucking at times, it wasn't but it just felt like it and I didn't like it. I think it's a steeper profile which I could not get along with. Some like it but I have a 120/70 on there now and it feels loads better.
