M750 Side Stand

Anyone got a side stand for a '96 MY they would be willing to sell please? Mine has lost the foot at the end and the one I bought off fleabay is no good.

I don't know if they do one for the earlier carby bikes but I've had my eye on one of these for a while now as I think the standard ones are pretty crappy: -

Thanks . Nice but as you say not cheap. If money were no object.......I'd be quite content with the OE one -not the spring up type however! There is a M400 one on fleabay with switch and mount but I was hoping to get just the stand at the right price.

Any local welder (= independent car bodyshop or workshop) will be able to quickly and cheaply weld on a new foot, in which case it could perhaps usefully be made a bit larger. If necessary, you could then add a fairly thick rubber base to it by means of a couple of self-tappers (bodger - moi?).

I had to add a rubber base to mine many years ago, after I fitted a centre-stand which necessarily uses the same mounting bolts and thus altered the side-stand's geometry, leaning the bike over to a scary degree.

Well thanks. I've given it a few days and swallowed the bullet and bought the only used UK one I could find off fleabay : £60 with the mount and switch. I did offer £45 but got no response. The other one I bought before had been modded - a thread had been inserted at the broken off foot and a thin plate screwed in but it was at the wrong angle and the bike was leaning at a somewhat jaunty angle. I tried this morning to make it safer but to no avail so I decided for the sake of peace of mind I would get the standard one with the undamaged foot.

You can just cut the head off the protruding bolt (there was a modified pivot bolt available once upon a time) to stop the flip up action.

As long as they can weld Alloy of course as Ducati didn’t change the stands to steel until 1999/2000ish.

This is the non flip up mod to use, could not quickly find the Monster one. I bought and fitted one to my 750,sure they must be available, cured all those oops I've fallen over incidents.

My oops moments tend to be riding off with the sidestand still down: I did this twice today! In my defence, investigation has since revelaled the stand was sticking partially down after being casually kicked backwards whilst sitting on the bike prior to setting off. That has now been fixed, so I'll need another excuse for next time!

Ive got a bust end on mine, too. Will be going to see my Tig welding mate! But this whole riding off with it down bothers me. Im used to rolling the Jota off the centre stand and away we go, Im sure Im going to forget the side stand.
Im trying to think of some electronic circuit (probably Arduino based) that will read the neutral switch and the stand up switch and cut the ignition if both are "off". But need to think through the consequences of the engine "stalling" when you put it in 1st with the stand down...something like toppling over because you havent moved forward as you expected. Or can they be made to flip up automatically when not under load. They call that the suicide stand on the Jota, because you sit on it and forget , lean it over to get off again and over she goes.
Hopefully someone will give me the simple solution

You have two options:

1. There's a spring up option for the sidestand that retracts when you take the weight off it.

2. There's a sidestand down light switch down by the sidestand which should light up when the stands down. You could wire that to the ignition circuit.

For many years now, I've been running a diode fitted between the neutral switch and the sidestand relay, which allows the bike to run when in neutral with the sidestand down but cuts the ignition if a gear is selected with the stand still down.
This is on a yr2000 M750 with the non-flip-up stand. I have no personal experience of the flip-up type.
There are (or at least there were) kits available from Electraeon (and possibly others) which work on the same principle.
Also the diy version of the mod was detailed in practical sportsbikes a while back.

I’d be very wary of wiring any form of ignition cut out to the neutral light circuit- given the switch’s history of going rogue.

You can tell easily when neutral is selected and so I gave up trying to fix the light and now I think my bike has done the last thirty thousand miles ‘in neutral’ according to the dash
