New S4 owner from Northern Ireland

I joined the forum a while back but just getting round to introducing myself now.
I live in Carrickfergus, Norn Iron, am 46 and have been riding bikes of some description from the age of 7 but have just recently got my 1st Ducati.
2001 Monster 916 S4, I got it of a mate who had it for 3 years but never actually rode it due to a starting issue, with the help of the forum I reckoned it was the sprag clutch, I replaced all 3 parts of the clutch (that flywheel nut was tight!) and got it started, I have spent the last few months sorting it out and getting it back on the road, starting with getting the MV Augusta seat unit to fit properly along with the seat itself, frame powder coated red and general overhaul. I was also told it has 955 barrels and heads though I haven't been able to confirm this yet.
If I can work out how to post photo's, I will put a couple on the forum.
And just to explain my username - Rostrumorhospital, (the last 2 letters are missing as there was not enough characters) it is one of my favourite motorbike quotes used about Noriyuki Haga and his riding style.

Hi Davey I have a much modifid 2001 S4 so may be able to which I have done all myself including fuelling and suspension so may be able to help with srtvice tips etc

Thanks for the link Kimbo, very quick to sign up and easy to use.
That's my 2001 S4, got it Taxed and MOT'd on Saturday and went for a decent run on Sunday, have a few issues to sort out.

- Front brake shudder through the lever, new discs should sort it out.
- after market rear sets need a bit of work to get the positioning where I want.

But the main issue

- revs to about 6500 quite cleanly but then hits a brick wall and doeasnt really want to rev any further, like it's choking / hesitating

Monsterman / Jerry - you mentioned you have an S4 with a similar set sup, is yours 955cc and do you have anything you reckon could be the issue.

Welcome Davey,

It could be any of the following:-

Fuel Pump Assembly plumbing/Blocked fuel filter restricting fuel supply
ECU faulty
Crank Position Sensor faulty

Well those would seem to be the most likely candidates to me. Has it got a power commander? That could be another possible.

Hi Mate first thing is change fuel filter as I have had dirty filter cause that issue twice ,,, second check its charging just in case as low volts badly affects running


Then Its Check TPS but that usually shows up as bad low speed running and stalling
to check TPS u need s good digital multimeter base level with throttle stop screw backed off completely is 152mv its very fiddly but u need to lock the screws at that position then check again with throttle stop screw wound up for 11-1200rpm and it should be about 450mv

No worries about the link Davey,glad you're sorted on that front.Lovely looking bike,really like that seat and zorst combination,might not be to everyone's taste but looks good to me!!!

Sorry I can't offer any advice on the technical issues but there are some great people on this forum with some amazing technical knowledge so hopefully you'll be able to sort it.

Yea, nice looking bike, the MV seat unit works really well, suits it.

Before you pull the fuel filter I would check you've not trapped the fuel lines somewhere, like under the tank for example?

Thanks for the positive comments / advice, had a check round the fuel lines and looks ok, have ordered a new fuel filter, see how that goes, at least it will eliminate one more thing.
