It may be that pickup, cable may be wrong colour ?

at the moment rear cylinder is white /red 1&2 and horizontal is black /yellow 3&4 horizontal works fine my Ducati, Haynes and DT manuals do not show the cable colours and online search shows different opinions ???

anyone here know the definitive colours

also any reccomended alternative to the overpriced Ducati starter solenoid and 5 pin relay

Jerry, I'll have a look later and see if I still have a spare set of pickups in my garage.

You're welcome to borrow them to eliminate or otherwise the ones you have.

I have White and Red going to CDI unit on LHS of bike which is for the Horizontal Cylinder, isnt it? This is a 94 M900

I use these solenoids on my Jota and they will fit the rubber holder on the Monster. You would have to change the terminals on the loom.

You can get Kawasaki Z1 type Starter Relays on fleabay for £15. They are very compact, about a double thickness matchbox size. Mine's still the original one on Horace (1980), and it pulled 80A when I measured it a few years ago.

The 5pin relays I buy from Merv Plastics (as they were) https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co...-flasher-units

I hope that helps

Edit: same as PPuxley wrote

Sorry, Jerry, I can't find them.

I've a horrible feeling somebody else borrowed them and I've not seen them back.

Is this the correct colour codes and sequence for the pickups to KOKUSANS ????

Pin1 WHITE
Pin2 RED
Pin3 BLACK
Pin4 YELLOW

or

Pin1 Red
Pin2 White

Pin 3 Black
Pin 4 Yellow

3 & 4 is Horizontal and that works fine so its pins 1 &3 that concern me ???

In theory at least I don't think it should matter about the polarity since it is just a coil energised by a magnet as long as the connection is good it should work both ways but then againI don't know what exactly is going on the the CDI units of these bikes.

Apparently the word is that if u get it the wrong way round its runs at full advance all the time ,,????

not made easier by fact all 3 of my 750s have different colour wires on the pickups the 97 bike they are all white ,, the 91 bike is red and black and blue and yellow ??????

the 2000 is the one with normal colours wires but its seems they must be in correct sequence

Yea, there could be diodes in the CDI to process +/- logic and do different things, maybe as a failsafe so the engine could still run? Truth is I don't know about the CDIs so it's probably worth checking the polarity on those wires to be 100& sure.

OK it gets weirder!!!! , the pickups have never been touched on this 21 year old bike but they are wired backwards yellow Black is 1&2 on Vertical Cylinder and red white is 3 & 4 on Horizontal, WTF!!!!, that is from factory ???? its been so reliable over the years I never noticed this anomaly....
it is now running again nice at 4000rpm and 2500rpm but sticking throttle cable is making tickover unobtainable so I cant check slow speed running yet look more tommorow ????

unless I go for a ride on the other one which is back to sweet now ,, Planning on going to the HAMC Kent Kustom show this weekend for some heavy partying ,,, could ride Petes HD its nice ride , pokey , but the monster is more fun and I dont mind it when its all smeggy and dirty hmm hoices

Bike is now running OK so the pickup wiring from factory being reversed seems to be the issue ?? Bike is smooth now but cant get low tickover less than 1500 rpm as throttle not fully shutting even there is slack in cable and the stop screw iswound all out so Im wondering if throttle return cable is neccesary to force it shut ??

currently only have 1 cable on throttle its new and the twist grip slams shut on the carb springs weird again ???
